  Science - MSN Encarta
The word science is derived from the Latin word scire, meaning β€œto know.” From its early beginnings, science has developed into one of the greatest and most influential fields of human endeavor.
Today different branches of science investigate almost everything that can be observed or detected, and science as a whole shapes the way we understand the universe, our planet, ourselves, and other living things.
However, in all fields of science, old or new, researchers use the same systematic approach, known as the scientific method, to add to what is known.

 A check-list for science in Africa - SciDev.Net
Indeed, the word science is only mentioned once – when the leaders endorse the idea of creating centres of excellence "in science and technology institutions" (see 'G8 leaders give indirect boost for science in Africa').
But in the long run, the most important areas for investment in science and technology are those that will help countries build their own bedrock of scientific and technical skills (including expertise in health and agriculture).
This is the case where there is a gap between the emphasis that developed countries place on their domestic investment in science and technology, and their willingness to see similar emphasis within their aid policies (see 'A case for more joined-up thinking').

The Vatican Film List: Ten Years Later
On March 17, 1995, almost exactly 10 years before his passing, Pope John Paul II addressed a plenary assembly of the Pontifical Commission for Social Communications, which that year observed another anniversary of particular importance to its own mission and to the Holy Father’s heart: the centenary of the motion picture.
Later that year, the pontifical commission provided an important reference point to Catholics interested in assessing the cinema’s “many worthwhile productions during the first hundred years of its existence”: a list of 45 films that has come to be known as the Vatican film list.
Thus, the films listed in, for instance, the “Values” category possess special moral worth, but that doesn’t mean that they are perfect even with respect to moral content — and certainly not with respect to religious or artistic significance.
