 Aircraft - Encyclopedia.WorldSearch
The major distinction in aircraft usage is between military aviation, which includes all uses of airplane for military purposes (such as combat, patrolling, search and rescue, reconnaissance, transport, and training), and civil aviation, which includes all uses of airplanes for non-military purposes.
Fixed-wing aircraft generally use an internal-combustion engine in the form of a piston engine(with a propeller) or a turbine engine (jet or turboprop), to provide thrust that moves the craft forward through the air.
In the case of aerodynamic lift, the aircraft is kept in the air because of aerodynamics, usually by means of wings, or rotors, of some kind.

Aero Ae 50 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Another unusual feature was that it incorporated a towing point to allow it to be towed by another, longer-range aircraft to enable it to be transported to a combat zone outside of its own range without having to stop and refuel.
These problems were overcome, but the problem of the aircraft being somewhat overweight proved insoluble, and development was abandoned.
Designed with the role in mind, the Ae 50 was a high-wing monoplane of unusual design, with a fuselage that terminated abruptly immediately aft of the crew cabin, leaving the tailplane to be mounted on a single boom attached to the wing.

Freight aircraft - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
They are often adapted from aircraft originally designed for passenger use, perhaps when the aircraft type is considered to have become uncompetitive in passenger airline service.
Freight aircraft, also called a freighter, are airliners converted for cargo hauling through the removal of passenger ammenities and the installation of a large cargo door.
Most air freight is however carried in the cargo holds of passenger aircraft.

Chengdu J-7 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In most other air forces using the aircraft, they serve as general purpose fighters, often in little more than a ceremonial role, assuaging their national ego.
One of these was the famous Mikoyan MiG-21 short-range interceptor and fighter aircraft.
Powered by a single jet and designed on a simple airframe, these fighters were inexpensive, but fast and manueverable, suiting the strategy of forming large quantities of 'people's fighters' to overcome technological advantages of Western aircraft.

U.S. Supersonic Commercial Aircraft: Assessing NASA's High Speed Research Program classes of polymeric materials and manufacturing processes suitable for a Mach 2.0 to 2.2 HSCT are available but have not demonstrated the life requirement and require significant technology development.
However, the HSR Program, with appropriate support from the airframe manufacturers and material suppliers, should also identify and develop critical enabling technologies to protect the viability of developing a Mach 2.0 to Mach 2.2 HSCT.
In the areas of manufacturing, processing, and producibility, the HSR Program is focused on developing processing methods for the fabrication of small numbers of subscale and full-scale components to support the materials testing program.

At least 900 of the 1,144 older Boeing 737-100 and 200 series aircraft are still flying, many of them in the US by low-fare units of the larger airlines such as MetroJet (US Airways) and Delta Express (Delta Air Lines).
In October 1997 Delta and Boeing signed a 20-year agreement for Boeing to be the sole supplier of new aircraft to the airline- this could represent deliveries of up to 644 new aircraft.
Boeing believes that there is a market for an aircraft larger than the current 747-400 but not large enough at their estimate, of between 400 and 500 aircraft, to justify the huge development costs of a completely new aircraft.
