Sinclair, who joined the public Canadian Broadcasting Corp. in 1944, was host of the popular radio show "Ideas" for 16 years, from 1983 until his retirement seven years ago.
Four years ago, Sinclair was honored for his play "Hilda Morgan" and his body of work by the Audio-Visual Preservation Trust of Canada, a national charitable organization dedicated to preserving and enhancing access to Canada's film, television, radio and music heritage.

Sinclair helped found the Association of Canadian Television and Radio Artists, and for a time was vice-president of the Canadian Conference of the Arts.

A three-hour tribute to Sinclair will run tonight, Tuesday and Wednesday on CBC Radio One, in the show's regular time slot of 9 p.m., 9:30 Newfoundland time, said a CBC Radio report.
Ross had reported that Sinclair had been planning to teach a course this fall through the University of Toronto, about subjects ranging from the Basques to Don Quixote, and was working on a script with Ideas producer Sara Wolch for a show about Parkinson's Law.
I momentarily caught part of a previous interview with Sinclair on CBC radio this morning, in which he was talking about his continuing amazement with the universe.

Follow Mallory Rd. for about 3 miles, past the golf course and airport turnoff, all the way to the intersection with Sinclair Rd. Turn left (North) on Sinclair Rd. The Lister Anglican Church Cemetery is on the right hand side of the road just past the school.
The cemetery and church were started sometime in the early 1930's and while the cemetery remains, the church has recently been moved to a new location.

Being in Western Australia, I had not heard of Lister.
Just the mention of it, took me back to my little apartment in Ottawa with my gold lame papered bathroom, where I would get ready for bed listening to Lister Sinclair on an old radio I had picked up for $3 at a garage sale.
I was a great fan of Lister for many years and then actually had a chance to host him for a conference and took him around Halifax for a day and a half while he waited for his flight back to TO.

I was going to draw a picture of him from one of the photos on the CBC website, but then it occurred to me that for the longest time my Sharp radio cassette recorder was the face of Lister Sinclair for me.
The show "Ideas" hosted by Lister Sinclair quickly became my obsession and I would drop everything at 9PM most weekdays to tune in to whatever fascinating topic they were covering that day.
Sinclair was working on other material, although he was technically retired.
