The population of Litchfield in 1901 was 645.
The current population of Litchfield, from the 2000 census, is 1,458.
Before 1837, the Township was attached to the town of Allen, but in the winter 1837-1838 the Legislation Council of the territory of Michigan passed an Act authorizing the organization of the town.
