Corrective Services teachers at several workplaces have put in place work bans to protest the Carr Government's refusal to pass on the interim 5.5 per cent salaries increase awarded by the Industrial Relations Commission to teachers in schools and TAFE colleges.
Teachers at Cessnock Correctional Centre were due to stop work on March 8 and teachers at Bathurst and John Moroney correctional centres on March 9.
Goulburn Correctional Centre teachers expressed anger at the Government's inaction by imposing work bans on non educational work which included not doing inmate intake profiles, monthly educational statistics or participating in case management meetings.

In seeking to prevent the introduction of mobile phones into correctional facilities, the ICAC said the increasing sophistication of the functions of the device — such as Internet access and picture messaging — must be taken into consideration, as well as the handsets' diminishing size and lack of metal components.
Micro-cells, that can be used to detect handsets that are receiving or making calls within the correctional centre was one such technological solutions suggested by the ACA, which would also allow authorities to monitor the illegal transmissions and also to disable the devices.

A coronial inquest into the death of John Wayne Glover, who murdered six elderly women in the year to March 1990, has heard his death may have been a failed attempt to gain a transfer out of the Lithgow Correctional Centre.
Despite police evidence suggesting this was the case, in a brief hearing earlier this morning NSW Deputy State Coroner Carl Milovanich found Glover had meant to kill himself on September 9 last year.
