Lithium ion polymer battery - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Lithium ion polymer batteries, or more commonly lithium polymer batteries (Abbreviated Li-Poly or LiPo) are rechargeable batteries which have technologically evolved from lithium ion batteries.
Ultimately, the lithium salt electrolyte is not held in an organic solvent like in the proven lithium ion design, but in a solid polymer composite such as polyacrylonitrile.
The main difference between commercial polymer and lithium ion cells is that in the latter cells, the rigid case presses the electrodes and the separator onto each other, whereas in polymer cells this external pressure is not required because the electrode sheets and the separator sheets are laminated onto each other.

Lithium polymer batteries (Li-Poly or LiPo) are (additional info and facts about rechargeable batteries) rechargeable batteries which have technologically evolved from (additional info and facts about lithium ion batteries) lithium ion batteries.
The voltage of a Li-Poly cell varies from about 2.7V (discharged) to about 4.23V (fully charged), and Li-Poly cells have to be protected from overcharge by limiting the applied voltage to no more than 4.235V per cell used in a series combination.
Cell disposal instructions usually suggest puncturing the cell and immersing it in salt water for several hours.

Lithium ion battery - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Lithium ion batteries (sometimes abbreviated Li-Ion) are a type of rechargeable battery commonly used in consumer electronics.
The anode is made from carbon, the cathode is a metal oxide, and the electrolyte is a lithium salt in an organic solvent.
Since the lithium metal which might be produced under irregular charging conditions is very reactive and might cause explosion, Li-ion cells usually have built-in protective electronics and/or fuses to prevent polarity reversal, over-voltage and over-heating.

 cars - Lithium ion battery
Lithium ion batteries (or Li-ion) have become very common and dropped in price recently.
One great advantage of Li-Ion batteries is their low self-discharge rate of only approximately 5% per month, compared with over 30% per month and 20% per month in nickel metal hydride batteries and nickel cadmium batteries respectively.
A unique drawback that we can see to the Li-Ion battery is that its life cycle is dependent upon aging from time of manufacturing (shelf life) regardless if it was charged or not and not on the number of charge/discharge cycles.
