In 1547 Litomysl was confiscated from Bohuš Kostek of Postupice because of his unsuccessful participation in the uprising against Ferdinand I. One year later the ban on the Union of Brothers was renewed (who also took part in the uprising - especially Bishop Jan August), and their members were forced to leave the land.
The Litomysl demesne, heavily in debt, was purchased by the von Thurn und Taxis family in 1855 and, following political and administrative changes enforced by the revolutionary events the demesne became their base, and the city of Litomysl became the administrative centre of the new district.
In the first half of the 1930's Litomysl was the scene of large exhibitions (on A. Jirásek, B. Nìmcová, B. Smetana), the organisation of which was mainly in the hands of a native of the city, Zdenìk Nejedlý.

Town Litomysl is in the Czech republic which is situated in the heart of Europe.
In the past the town was also a significant religious centre; it was in Litomysl in 1344 that the second bishopric to be established in Bohemia was founded.
Litomysl came to public notice in a political context as well: in 1994 the meeting of the seven Central European presidents took place at the castle, and in 1995 the Spanish royal couple visited the town.

 The History of Centuries - Beginnings
Mills are mentioned in Litomysl, Trzek, Nedosin, Hrusova, Sloupnice, Nemcice, Opatov, Trstenice, Litrbachy, Porici, Ujezd and Osik as early as the 14th century.

Taking place in the little Bohemian town of Litomysl - the birthplace of Czech composer Bedrich Smetana - the festival has a special significance this year as it marks the 180th anniversary of the birth and the 120th anniversary of the death of the great composer of the Czech national revival.
Traditionally, the main venue of the music festival are the courtyards of the Renaissance Litomysl Castle.
This year's Smetana's Litomysl also pays homage to another great Czech composer, Antonin Dvorak, to mark the centenary of his death, by putting up a number of Dvorak's piano, violin and cello concertos.

The idea of the founding of the school for restoration and conservation technology in Litomysl came into being in 1992 during the completion of work on the rescue and restoration of precious wall paintings by Josef Vachal in the Portman House, which today is the Portmoneum Museum of Josef Vachal in Litomysl.
