  Little Cottonwood Canyon - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
At the mouth of the canyon is the site where Mormon pioneers quarried massive granite blocks to build the Salt Lake Temple.
The lower third of the canyon is strewn with granite outcroppings, mostly consisting of smooth steep faces, some up to several hundred feet high.
Many of the major routes in Little Cottonwood were established in the early 1960s by the Alpenbock Club, some in conjunction with well-known visitors including Fred Beckey, Layton Kor, and Royal Robbins.

Little Cottonwood canyon is on most maps and is located to the southwest of Salt Lake.
While driving up and down the Little Cottonwood canyon I could not help but notice there were numerous places that looked like they were waterfalls part of the year.
There is no trail up this little creek but it is extremely easy to follow even at the falls due to all the heavy boulders and walk- arounds.

 Snowshoeing around Salt Lake
Canyon leading to the Broads Fork Twin Peaks, day before Christmas Eve 1999 we snowshoed up to the upper basin for about 2 hours and then rushed back.
View towards the south, left behind the slope is the ridge between Sundial Peak and the main ridge.
The hike up took a little longer, due to heavy packs, but we were rewarded by a night in solitude.

The junction is identified be a huge flashing message board on the south side of the road and a park and ride lot on the north side of the canyon.

The SUV was attempting to pass some other cars heading down the canyon when it hit the bus, which was traveling up the canyon, Salt Lake County sheriff's deputy Peggy Faulkner said.
The bus, which slid off the road after the collision and into a ditch, was not carrying any passengers, and the driver was not injured, Faulkner said.

This is a jeep track that eventually turns to a foot path that continues up the side of the hill.
As I continued up the ridge line south in Little Cottonwood Canyon, the Pfeifferhorn, White Baldy, Twin Peaks, Hidden Peak, Mt. Baldy, and Collins Gulch are all in view.
