		Some TH fans might consider this album a musical road to nowhere by this eclectic band, but in my opinion Little Creatures proves that the journey is often times the best part of the trip.
		I actually came across this album a couple years ago, but at the time I only really payed attention to the big hit, "And She Was." Then I checked it out again, and realized that each of these songs is catchy and solid.
		The album especially has a good album-ending punch with "Television Man" and "Road to Nowhere." "Road" was actually pretty unconventional compared to the remainder of the album even though it was one of the hits from the album.

	Little Feat: Chinese Work Songs
		The bookends of this wonderful Little Feat album, released in June 2000, are awesome versions of The Band's "Rag Mama Rag" and Bob Dylan's "It Takes a Lot to Laugh, It Takes a Train to Cry." "Rag Mama Rag" opens the CD, and "Train" closes it.
		Also included is Little Feat's cover of "Gimme a Stone" from the great concept album Largo.
		Live versions of "Rag Mama Rag" from Little Feat can be found on the acoustic 2002 album Live at the Rams Head and on 2003's Down Upon the Suwannee River.

		This Talking Heads album gets a bit of a bad rap for being the one where David Byrne took over, but be that as it may, it's my favorite.
		This is also the album with the single Road To Nowhere on it, bringing up the rear as the closing track, and yet sandwiched between those two minor hits are some of the Talking Heads' best stuff.
		It's rather uneven as an album when listened to all in one sitting, but there are indivdual numbers that make this easy to overlook.

		For the purpose of this review, we pay attention to True Stories, the album that followed the Little Creatures album, itself a transitional phase that led from World rhythm to the simpler, less complex music of their earlier career and one that offered a conducive environment for the singles that spun off them.
		True Stories continued the trend started with the successful Little Creatures and churned out "Wild Wild Life", but it was evident that the band was slowing.
		It is obviously the album that started the band to rethink their effectiveness as a unit, probably realizing that they have explored a wide continent of styles, covering more ground than many bands ever have and growing tired of the entire routine.

		Though internal tensions pushed them closer to creative implosion, the band's last three albums still stand up against ninety percent of everything produced in the Twentieth Century and damn near a hundred percent of the garbage that passed for music during the eighties.
		Little Creatures sounds more like our Talking Heads than any of these three, despite its simpler song structures and more grown-up lyrics (in sentiment anyway — Byrne's verbal efficiency is in high gear on this record).
		The two singles, "And She Was" and "Road to Nowhere," sandwich an album of tight pop tunes that still ooze the band's familiar quirkiness, and the video extras remind you why you ever wanted your MTV in the first place.

		Talking Heads' last proper studio album before their protracted breakup finds them returning to the dynamic that produced their best work, with inspired results.
		As swan songs go, Naked proves to be a pretty good one: Alternately serious and playful, it once again allows frontman David Byrne to worry about the government, the environment, and the plight of the working man as it frees up the rest of the band to trade instruments and work with guest musicians.
		It's quite a feat to pull of a late-career album as ambitious as Naked, and the Heads do so with style and vitality.

		It was with their second album, 1978's ''More Songs About Buildings and Food'' that the band began its long-term collaboration with Brian Eno, one-time keyboard player for Roxy Music, latterly famous for his experimental, ambient art-pop and for producing several respected albums for David Bowie.
		Though the first album's "Psycho Killer" had been a minor hit, it was this album's cover of Al Green's "Take Me to the River" that broke Talking Heads into general public consciousness.
		Three more albums followed, 1985's ''Little Creatures'', 1986's ''True Stories'' (Talking Heads covering all the soundtrack songs of Byrne's musical comedy film, in which the band also appeared) and 1988's ''Naked''.

		His widest exposure may have been from album cover art.
		The Georgia-based rock band R.E.M. asked Finster to make the cover for its 1984 album, "Reckoning." A year later, Talking Heads, a rock group of former art students, commissioned Finster for the cover of its "Little Creatures" album.

		So, not to downplay Dave Eggers' typographic talents or anything, but I find it curious that no one has ever compared the Might/McSweeney's typesetting and style to the record sleeve on Talking Heads' 1985 album, Little Creatures.
		The credit on the album says, "Design by MandCo., New York," which, of course, was Tibor Kalman's design company.
		Little Creatures is a good album, by the way.

	The Folk Art Messenger: A Tribute to Howard Finster
		If a famous rock group like R.E.M., a country band like Black Hawk, or a little-known Christian quartet like Adam Again wanted to use one of his paintings on an album cover, Finster was delighted -- it meant that more of God's messages were going out.
		When the Talking Heads' album Little Creatures made Rolling Stone's 1985 Album Cover of the Year and sold a million copies, Finster said, "Each cover has 22 Bible messages on it, so that's 22 million messages from God going into the world."
		Throughout the years, there was much criticism that Finster had made too many works of art and that many of them were dashed off, assembly-line style, with his family members painting the backgrounds while he finished the details and the ubiquitous messages.
