Little Ilford was an appropriate name, as it was the smallest parish in the Becontree Hundred and the Domesday Book stated that it only had 10 inhabitants.
The name Manor Park was given to the station because of the manor house called Aldersbrook house which used to be near to the present City of London Cemetery and Manor Farm which was close to the present Library.
This little church with a small wooden bell tower is about 600 years older than any other building in E 12.

Little Ilford, Essex, ¾ miles southwest of Great Ilford, and a station on the Great Eastern Railway (Colchester Line): population 675, of whom 33 were inmates of the gaol.
The church and quiet old village lie among perfectly flat fields, ¼ mile south of the high road, but the parish stretches some way north of it, and comprises within its boundaries the County House of Detention, better known as Ilford Gaol, a large brick structure, erected in 1831, and the City of London Cemetery.
Little Ilford Church (the Virgin Mary), is a mean brick substitute for a venerable ivy-clad building, one of the most picturesque village churches near London, destroyed a few years back.

Recently the Essex group of stone apsidal ended churches of 11th century plan have been described as the work of a very localised school of builders (Turner 1934,43-63).
The proposed Little Ilford dimensions are similar to this group, and the presence of a timber prototype to the stone-built group may be considered a possibility.

We re-grouped at Little Ilford Youth Centre and discussed the components.
We were not able to meet on Saturday 21st because Little Ilford Centre was unexpectedly closed and whicle we were able to talk informally in Little Ilford Park we could not progress much.
NYPO developers are planning an event to be held at Little Ilford Youth Zone on 9th May. Meetings to discuss this were held during the Easter Break.

In 1948 it was extended from Barkingside to Ilford Station via Gants Hill.
In 1955 it was extended on Sundays from Ilford to East Ham (White Horse) via Little Ilford Lane and Browning Road.

Newham Council has built the new Little Ilford community police office in Parkhurst Road on the site of 16 former lock-up garages.

Manor Park itself was not known as Itchycoo Park rather it was what us local kids including Steve nicknamed little Ilford Park due to the horrendous amount of stinging nettles there.
I was born in 1949 in Manor Park and the place was a magnet to us kids.
There are two schools of thought about this with claims that Ronnie saw the spires of Bristol or Oxford while staying in a hotel there.
