The features in Yosemite Valley are made of granitic rock that was emplaced as plutons miles deep during the late Cretaceous.
The glaciers widened the valley, but much of its width is in fact due to previous stream erosion and mass wasting along vertical joints in the valley's walls.

Yosemite Falls is a composite waterfall totaling 746 meters (2,425 ft), with the Upper Fall (435 m; 1,430 ft), Middle Cascades (208 m; 675 ft), and Lower Fall (98 m; 320 ft).

The hiking trail to the summit of Half Dome in Yosemite National Park, California is one of the most famous and scenic day hikes in the United States.
Snow and ice can reach all the way down to the Yosemite Valley floor during the winter and the trail can be slippery and dangerous in those conditions.
I recommend starting hiking at sunrise (note that the Yosemite Valley shuttle bus may not be running that early, but the trailhead is within easy walking distance of many valley accomodations).

A little further up and off to the left there is another Vernal Fall view point that you need to do a little boulder hopping to get to.
Little Yosemite Valley: Leaving the top of Nevada Fall on the way to Half Dome the log bathroom previously mentioned is found.
At the point where you begin your ascent out of Little Yosemite Valley towards the base of Half Dome there is another log bathroom visible (towards the river and the camp grounds) midway between the two trails.

The first day when we hiked up into Little Yosemite Valley and set up camp was fine but by the next morning the weather had turned to overcast and threatening.
We usually meet in the valley for President’s Day weekend in February and have to drive over to Bakersfield and up the busier and more boring west side of the Sierra.
Yosemite is one of those places where you can close your eyes, point a camera in any direction and get an extremely impressive picture.

Doing Half Dome from Yosemite Valley as a day hike is one of the most killer day-hikes in the Sierra.
Coming up through the valley, particularly up the Mist Trail, is no small task, so it was not surprising that many get to the top of Nevada Falls and find out they are done in for the day.
It is so much easier to hike from Little Yosemite Valley to Half Dome, return to camp, pack up and head for the trailhead or spend another pleasant night in Little Yosemite Valley.
