Catholic Answers Special Report: Liturgical Abuses
All liturgical norms that a conference of bishops will have established for its territory in accordance with the law are to be submitted to the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments for the recognitio [approval], without which they lack any binding force (28).
From the fact that the liturgical celebration obviously entails activity, it does not follow that everyone must necessarily have something concrete to do beyond the actions and gestures, as if a certain specific liturgical ministry must necessarily be given to the individuals to be carried out by them.
It is fitting that such a one should have received a liturgical formation in accordance with his or her age, condition, state of life, and religious culture.

USCCB - (Liturgy) - Ministries and Roles Within the Liturgical Assembly at Mass
When the Church comes together in the liturgical assembly to celebrate the Mass, or any other sacrament, her members do not gather simply as a crowd, as an amorphous, undifferentiated group of people.
In addition to the ordained ministries there are roles in the liturgy which are exercised by lay people who place their time and talent at the service of the liturgical assembly as acolytes (altar servers), lectors, extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion, cantors, choir members, instrumentalists, leaders of song and ushers.
Those engaged in liturgical roles need to be well-prepared for those roles and to know how to carry them out with reverence, dignity and understanding.

 Notes
For in liturgical worship we are not only put "in contact" with God, but are given the vision of the Kingdom of God, as fulfillment in Him of all that exists, of all that He has created for Himself, and also we are made partakers of that new Reality.
But the real liturgical teaching and it is here that we approach the heart of the whole matter- is precisely the explanation of the liturgy in its connection to life, revelation of its "existential" power.
As such, this liturgical teaching is almost diametrically opposed to the popular and extremely superficial "symbolical" interpretation of rites, interpretation which "fits" very well the secularistic mentality because it does not challenge, judge or question anything in it.

THE LITURGICAL CHANT ACCORDING TO THE CARPATHO-Rusyn TRADITION
Liturgical chant became an integral part of Christian worship since Apostolic times in agreement with the admonition of St. Paul: "With gratitude in your heart sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to God" (Col. 3:16).
In the Carpathian region liturgical as well as folk music was transmitted from one generation to another by means of oral tradition.
In Subcarpathian Ruthenia liturgical chant started to be systematically cultivated only at the turn of the 18th century, when some educated cantors, who had received their musical formation in the famous monastic schools of Kiev, Pochajiv, or L'viv, arrived on the scene.

 Reflections on the Liturgical Reform
The liturgical reform today can no longer be considered statically, in the documents which it founded, but must be seen in its dynamic aspect, paying attention to a multiplicity of elements which, although not foreseen by the Novus Ordo, has become a whole part of what can be defined as contemporary liturgical praxis.
The liturgical reform presents itself then as the Word of the new theology which takes flesh, that is to say praxis, in "self-realizing" the Church by the new secularized liturgy.
That means that one cannot imagine a liturgical reform or restoration that disregards the difficulties of a reform or restoration considered theologically, ecclesiologically, and culturally.

 Liturgical year at AllExperts
The liturgical year, also known as the Christian year, consists of the cycle of liturgical seasons in some Christian churches which determines when Feasts, Memorials, Commemorations, and Solemnities are to be observed and which portions of Scripture are to be read.
The liturgical cycle divides the year into a series of seasons, each with their own mood, theological emphases, and modes of prayer, which can be signified by different ways of decorating churches, vestments for clergy, scriptural readings, themes for preaching and even different traditions and practices often observed personally or in the home.
Western Christian liturgical calendars are based on the cycle of the Roman or Latin Rite of the Roman Catholic Church, including Protestant calendars since this cycle pre-dates the Protestant Reformation.

 Liturgical Spirituality
An era of liturgical reform often forgotten is the period from the Council of Trent (1563) to the advent of the Second Vatican Council (1963).

 About the Liturgical Calendar
The liturgical year is the temporal structure within which the Church celebrates the holy mysteries of Christ: "From the Incarnation and the Nativity to the Ascension, to Pentecost and to the wait in joyful hope for the Lord's coming" (109).
In the liturgical year, "the celebration of the Paschal Mystery [...] is the most privileged moment in the daily, weekly and annual celebration of Christian worship" (110).
Consequently, the priority of the Liturgical year over any other devotional form or practice must be regarded as a touchstone for the relationship between Liturgy and popular piety.

Theologia :: Worship :: Why Presbyterians Don't Like Liturgy   (Site not responding. Last check: )
The last dimension of liturgical worship I should call attention to in this very short description is that any liturgy that purports to be biblical will involve not only the whole body of Christ, but also the bodies of the congregation.
Liturgical worship and theology have fared much better in what we would consider largely liberal or neo-orthodox Presbyterian churches (like the PCUSA or even the Church of Scotland), a fact that may even contribute to confessional Presbyterians' suspicion of all things liturgical.
Whether we Presbyterians are still justified in rejecting liturgical worship because of its past (and present) associations with Episcopalian and Roman Catholic churches is a theological and historical research project that desperately needs attention.
