Calendars of the Syriac Orthodox Church
Liturgical calendars guide the faithful in the practice of spiritual life in the Church all through the year.
Over the ages, liturgical calendars were published in two forms—as tables of Easter and related movable feasts as well as a calendar of saints celebrated on fixed dates on the calendar.
Calendars listing both fixed and movable feasts for a calendar year are relatively recent innovations, most likely in the 20th century, when printing came to be widely adopted.

Just as a typical calendar has four seasons, twelve months, fifty-two weeks, and 365 days that include holidays, solemn days, commemorative days, and days that are just "average," the Liturgical Year Calendar of the Church uses similar terms and measurements.
The Liturgical Year begins on the first Sunday of Advent, which usually occurs around the beginning of December or the end of November, and ends on the feast of Christ the King.
However, the purpose of the Liturgical Year Calendar is not to mark the passage of time, but to celebrate and understand more fully the entire mystery of Jesus Christ, from his incarnation and birth until his ascension, the day of Pentecost, and the expectation of his return in glory.

 About the Liturgical Calendar
As defined by the Catechism of the Catholic Church, the Liturgical Year is "The celebration throughout the year of the mysteries of the Lord's birth, life, death, and Resurrection in such a way that the entire year becomes a 'year of the Lord's grace'.
The liturgical year is the temporal structure within which the Church celebrates the holy mysteries of Christ: "From the Incarnation and the Nativity to the Ascension, to Pentecost and to the wait in joyful hope for the Lord's coming" (109).
In the liturgical year, "the celebration of the Paschal Mystery [...] is the most privileged moment in the daily, weekly and annual celebration of Christian worship" (110).

The Liturgy of the Hours follows the same liturgical calendar as that used for Mass and so the day of the Liturgical Year celebrated at Mass will be celebrated in that day's office as well.
From very early in her history the church began the celebration of major feasts with prayer on the evening before, and so one mark of the most important celebrations in the Church's calendar today is this extended liturgical day.
For this reason, and also because the Church is world-wide and not all individual saints are equally important to all members of the Church, some memorials of saints are commemorated by the universal church, others by smaller groups for whom those saints have a special significance.

Christ Jesus, the Way, The Liturgical Year, Ordinary Time
The Triduum is the most important celebration of the liturgical year.  The three days of the Easter Triduum begins with the evening Mass of the Lord's Supper, recalls the death of Jesus on Good Friday, reaches its high point in the Easter Vigil, and closes with evening prayer on Easter Sunday.
All of the Liturgies of the Triduum are tied to the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus.  In this way the faithful can journey with Jesus to the cross, and to resurrection and new life.
For the first time since Lent began the alleluias are sung in honor of the risen Christ.  New Catholics are initiated through the reception of Baptism, Holy Eucharist, and Confirmation.  The message that Christ has died, Christ is risen and Christ will come again are at the center of these days.
