Ground and Sky review - Miles Davis - Live-Evil
The live tracks are from a 1970 band performance at the Cellar Door in Washington, D.C. The lineup is notable for including Keith Jarrett on keyboards (electric piano, no less!) and John McLaughlin sitting in.
While these live tracks are interesting to varying degrees (except for "Funky Tonk," which meanders too much), they are all definitely overindulgent in terms of their length.
The live material sounds to me more like an extension (and abstraction) of Jack Johnson than a development of what his electric band was doing circa Bitches Brew, and since I've always preferred Jack Johnson anyway, I consider this to be a positive.

Why the discs were not issued separately or as a live disc and a studio disc has more to do with Miles' mind than anything else.
As for the performances, the live material is wonderfully immediate and fiery: "Sivad," "Funky Tonk," and "What I Say" all cream with enthusiasm, even if they are a tad unsure of how to accommodate McLaughlin.

As engaging as the studio material was, it is the live music that gives this release its teeth.
Most of Davis’ other live albums from the period are a lot spottier than this one, especially as he got closer to retirement.

Aspects generally regarded as "Evil" are thought of as immoral, corrupt, corrupting, inhumane, and wicked.
The ability to choose between good and evil is also a major theme of a number of video games, including Fable, Black and White, Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones, and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.
As used by computer hackers, the jargon term evil implies that some system, program, person, or institution is sufficiently maldesigned to the point that the hacker(s) shouldn't worry about it.

Live Evil is the first and only Ronnie James Dio-fronted live album by British heavy metal band Black Sabbath, released in 1982 (see 1982 in music).
The album was recorded live in Seattle, San Antonio and Dallas and was the first "official" live album released by the band.
Already having tense relations with the other band members, Dio and drummer Vinny Appice abruptly left the group during the mixing of the album, amidst rumors that they had sneaked into the studio late at night to mix the drums and vocals higher.

Black Sabbath : Live Evil - Listen, Review and Buy at ARTISTdirect
Black Sabbath's first attempt at an official live album was the straw that broke the camel's back; or rather, it split the band's second lineup right down the middle.
Band tensions were already at an all-time high, but when founding members Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler accused singer Ronnie James Dio of sneaking into the studio to raise the volume on his vocals, the pint-sized warbler decided it was time to pursue a solo career, taking drummer Vinny Appice with him.
Accusations aside, 1982's Live Evil benefits from a clear, "in your face" sound, and despite relying heavily on Dio-era material, the album effectively documents Black Sabbath's tours in the early '80s.

Henderson was a Motown sessionist, not a jazz bassist; as such, his inclusion helped Miles to take his music in a far more rhythmic and immediate direction.
On December 19, 1970, Miles and his band—with Henderson on bass—played The Cellar Door, Washington D.C. The performance was recorded and used for the live selections of Live-Evil (I suppose the studio tracks are the evil selections).
The double album was released in 1971—a year in which rhythm & blues/soul music was beginning to surpass rock music in terms of creativity and vigor.
