It seems, though, that while cutting the songs for the live versions, the audience was muted out for the majority of the time.
Some songs have also lost their live feel, for they need to be heard live, rather than recorded live.
Songs that lose their rock edge, like “Father, Spirit, Jesus” and “Set Me Free” need to be experienced in person to be completely appreciated.

Song to Live by is an ecletic mix of funk, jazz, and urban poetics that most people are never fortunate enough to experience.
Songs to live by is the latestt CD by the Square Egg, and not the last nor the least in a wealth of groove and beat and flow.
Songs to live by is one of the easiest and smoothest CD's to listen to, it's like the beach on a perfect sunny day with cool water and lots of swirling diving waves and flowing breezes.

Leonard Cohen : Live Songs - Listen, Review and Buy at ARTISTdirect
Although never released in the U.S. (except on vinyl), Live Songs is an integral part of the early Cohen chronicles.
Live Songs also includes a handful of his most popular tracks from the 1969 release, Songs From a Room.
Live Songs is certainly not an introductory CD, but for those who've formed a friendship with the words and wisdom of Leonard Cohen, this album finds him raw and naked in one of his finest hours.

Live - Songs from Black Mountain (Album Review)
With the release of Songs from Black Mountain, the boys from York, Pennsylvania known collectively as Live are back with their first new studio album since 2003’s Birds of Pray.
All four of these songs are classic rockers that easily could find their way to FM radio play lists.
It’s a typical deployment of Live’s formulaic approach of vacillating between loud and soft segments, and after awhile the uniform dynamics begin to wear thin.

In the independent condition, participants chose which songs to listen to based solely on the names of the bands and their songs.
Researchers found that popular songs were popular and unpopular songs were unpopular, regardless of their quality established by the other group.
Although different songs were hits in each world, popularity was still the deciding factor, although the "best" songs never did very badly and the "worst" songs never did very well.

Home is a good rock song that attempts to evoke the issue of war and the desire for peace, but falls prey to cliched lyrics.
The songs really grow on you and I have found myself constantly listening to this album in the car and singing along to the first seven songs which are all great.
The song writing is still good had this been recorded in the jerry harrison 1999 TDTH era i think it would be a great album, Ed is never gonna run out of good idea's for songs, the lyrics are very simple but that really does'nt matter it is energy behind the song that truly matters.

Live - Songs From Black Mountain   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-03)
Without a doubt Live are one of the most confusing bands of the last decade.
Songs From Black Mountain begins with the slow build (a recognizable feature from the band’s early years) of the first single, “The River.” Quickly launching into a hook heavy chorus that is hard to get out of your head, the band prove that, if nothing else, they still have a knack for writing memorable songs.
Live may consist of the same members it always has but time and circumstance have changed them.

HYBRIDMAGAZINE.COM | REVIEWS | Live - Songs From Black Mountain album review
Live seems to have lost its patience in fully developing its musical ideas, or thinks that its remaining fans have lost theirs.
Some songs wouldn't suffer if Kowalczyk's fervor didn't come off as semi-silly ("You are not alone/No, child!") or if he didn't taint would-be romantic lyrics with cringe-worthy figures of speech ("Sofia, I need ya/Like a junkie needs a vein").
It's clear that present-day Live is Kowalczyk's show, and you can't help but wonder if his bandmates are at all opposed to the recent direction they've taken, or if they're fine with following their shepherd.

Note: the songs from this album did not require complex, elaborate instrumentation, so they fit in well on the band's 1980 tour, which was scaled down in scope from previous tours.

Live - Songs From Black Mountain : album review
Since then Live's star has waned somewhat, although not altogether fairly considering the quality of much of Secret Samadhi and The Distance To Here, some of V (especially the simply beautiful Overcome) and pretty much all of 2003's superb sixth album, Birds Of Pray.
The problem is that not only is that not the sound of Live but Kowalcykz's misfiring seems to have infiltrated the rest of the band, with hitherto percussive giant Chad Gracey inexplicably using a near-identical drum move as an intro or fill in around half a dozen songs.
In conclusion, the only crumb of comfort I can hold on to is the fact that the last time Live made an album this bad they followed it up with a piece more magical that most bands will never have a hope of conjuring.

Fall of 2001 was the first time Orleans played together since Fall 1997, when the group decided to take a break in a 25-year run as a revered live and recording band.
A steady barrage of fan letters and requests from friends got them thinking about this reunion, and the shows last fall were so much fun they decided to do more this year..
Besides their hits and chestnuts from many albums, Orleans will perform tunes from Hall's and Hoppen's solo efforts, new songs that have not been recorded yet, and the occasional cover.

If you were wanting to hear a typical concert from this band, with mostly the band's own songs, Petty talking between songs, etc., you'll be disappointed if this CD is the only live material you hear from them.
Sometimes, live albums don't turn out too well---bad mixing, apathetic crowd, etc. This is the exception; all the songs sound great live and the audience is charged up.
The editing between songs leaves a little to be desired, and the flow of the album suffers as a result.
