		Astoria definitely didn’t hew to that concept, as it used all five channels to present the songs.
		Live at the Astoria London presents a typical Vai concert and offers a broad representation of his style.

		Astoria is considered one of the largest 'Greek' areas outside of Greece.
		If you're going to Manhattan, some good spots to look for cabs are 31st street (under the subway tracks) and Crescent Street (cabs returning to Manhatan will happily pick you up there).
		Speaking about Astoria, you can expect a decent 1BR for about $1,000, a 2BR for $1,400, etc. Unfortunately, as the area becomes increasingly popular, more and more apartments are only available through brokers.

		Astoria's Flushing Avenue was a large part of this tradition: it led all the way to Jackson Avenue, today's Northern Boulevard, the main route from Long Island City to Flushing.

	Ministry live at the Astoria
		Ministry's last gig in March had a pretty good response, with word being that the band have replaced a lot of their key live personnel with far better musicians and that their set focuses for the most part on more recent material.
		Considering how rare their visits to the shores have been (they didn't play properly here until 1992, and since then their performances have been pretty thread bare) the fact that this is their third appearance in the UK in less than 6 months is a pretty good sign.
		The sound mix is perhaps the best I've ever heard at the Astoria, with none of the elements of the band hogging the mix at the expense of any of the others.

		I had been chanting and rapping along, but somehow it hadn't quite lived up to the last time I saw them at the same venue when Freddy Foxxx and a whole load of others were there to fill the stage.
		Never the less, Guru is a seasoned performer and with a little help from Big Shug and an anonymous hype man was able to fill the stage and captivate the audience with no need for props or stage design, but by the force of his presence.
		I live Hip Hop and Gangstarr have to be a big factor in that.

		The song "Brazilian Skies" also from the live album preceded the only new Renaissance song in the set which is called "Eva's Pond." This featured just piano and voice and reminded me a little of "Captive Heart" from Novella, Mike Dunford did not play on this one and "Seashell Eyes".
		This was Annie's first major concert appearance in the UK for many years and the response she received was heart-warming.
		I fervently hope that Annie returns soon to these shores and plays a much longer set in a more suitable venue, either with her own band or as is hoped, with a reformed Renaissance.

		As a matter of fact, he is so special, so incredibly articulate and skilled with his playing that he sets up a barrier of "better than" between himself and his audience that makes it hard for an audience to really connect.
		The concert is filmed in a multi-angle frenzy that constantly undercuts moments for the sake of another edit, and there is even the employment of some dated digital and camera tricks (backwards looping, odd colorizing) that further threaten the experience.
		Steve Vai: Live at the Astoria London will probably not convert you into a fan of the man. But you can't help but admire his amazing talent.

		I agree about the 2nd dvd being useless because it is but the musicianship is Top notch.
		The whole show was way over the top, a good guitar player really does not have to behave like an ego maniac or wear silly costumes to get his music across to the audience.
		So, thumbs up for this DVD that was one of the birthday gifts he received and treasures.

		I was introduced to Steve Vai for the first time via the 1986 movie Crossroads, which starred Ralph Macchio in an update to the famous story of a blues guitarist who sells his soul to the devil.
		Although I preferred Vai's performance of this song on the G3 Live In Concert DVD, he still brought the house down with his intense and emotional performance at this concert.
		His live performances have a unique dynamic that videos don't quite capture.
