  BBC Radio 5 Live
BBC Radio 5 Live is the British Broadcasting Corporation's radio service devoted to news, phone-ins, and sports commentaries.
The station was originally launched as BBC Radio 5 in 1988, and carried a mixture of sports, news, children's programming and drama, broadcasting for about 18 hours per day.
The BBC eventually decided to relaunch the station with a new name, so the "old" Radio 5 closed down at midnight on Sunday March 27, 1994 following a special programme on the subject of endings, and the new Radio 5 Live began its 24-hour service on the morning of Monday, March 28.

BBC Radio Five Live - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
BBC Radio Five Live is the BBC's radio service providing live BBC News, phone-ins, and sports commentaries.
Despite protests from BBC Radio 4 listeners the BBC also received praise for the quality of this service and the speed with which it was set up.
Five Live's commercial rival is TalkSPORT, but unlike the commercial television station, Sky Sports, TalkSPORT has acquired few exclusive rights, and non-commercial radio, represented by Five Live and the BBC's local radio stations, remains dominant in radio sport broadcasting in the UK.

Deep Purple - Live on the BBC - Audio Fidelity -SACD
Audio Fidelity's release of Deep Purple Live on the BBC in the popular format of SACD is from the Mark II lineup and therefore represents many of the songs that issued from the band's magnificent Machine Head album.
This BBC show was recorded in 1972, which was the same year that Machine Head was recorded and Made In Japan was released.
The album's closer live track, "Lucille", is not available to the CD layer due to space limitations and will therefore transition from "Smoke on the Water" to the two real gems on this SACD, "Hush", and the memorable "River Deep Mountain High", two pre-Machine Head tracks and from the Mark I lineup.

Live at the BBC: The Beatles
Live at the BBC should forever clear Ringo's name as the luckiest man in rock and position him as one of the most underrated musicians of all time.
The BBC's crucial contribution was in leaping ahead of the recording concerns in 1962 and broadcasting the Beatles live before they were signed by a record label.
Because it's likely to stand as the only legitimately released snapshot from this period, for most fans Live at the BBC will provide the best glimpse of the Beatles' early repertoire, and the most persuasive explanation of why they returned to these songs in early 1969 as they tried to rebuild their crumbling monument.

Live At The BBC by Beatles CD
LIVE AT THE BBC is a 2-CD set containing 69 live tracks, all of which are previously unreleased.
Although the guitars are often electric, LIVE AT THE BBC is, essentially, the Beatles Unplugged--yanked out of the recording studio, gathered around a few microphones and encouraged to show off their raw craft, naked voices and rock'n'roll roots.
MTV didn't exist in the early '60s, but the BBC did, and between March 1962 and June 1965 (a period that spans their first four albums and takes them from the simplicity of "Love Me Do" to the complexities of "Ticket To Ride") the Beatles performed 52 times on England's national radio network.

Indeed, in the case of the recently released Beatles radio sessions, we were informed by news reports on the BBC itself that the vaults in which the tapes were actually 'dust-encrusted', which doesn't say too much for the work of the BBC archivists.
Of the 275 Beatles recordings broadcast by the BBC between March 8, 1962 and June 7, 1965, various were in fact re-broadcast by the network in a two hour special entitled The Beatles At The Beeb in 1982.
Kevin Howlett, a senior producer at BBC Radio 1, wrote the sleeve notes for the new album, The Beatles, Live At The BBC, having previously re-engineered - and acted as a conduit in the location of - much of the material that was used for the 1982 and 1988 re-broadcasts.

The Fleetwood Mac lineup presented here in these BBC studio recordings from 1967-1971 represents to many die-hard fans the only truly worthwhile version of the band, and bears little resemblance to the pop superstars the group would evolve into during the height of the Buckingham-Nicks era a decade later.
Their live shows under leader Peter Green were the stuff of legend and influenced countless legions of future blues-rockers.
