IMDb > Jeff Buckley: Live in Chicago (2000) (V)
Jeff Buckley - Live in Chicago includes songs from Grace, classic cover tunes (from sources ranging from Nina Simone to the MC5!)...
Overall, the closest one will get to experiencing Buckley's transcending sounds live, without actually having been there, and the rubbish spouted randomly between songs is non-stop pure gold ("Get on top of my coffin, woman").

 WEEN, "Live in Chicago"
The first live DVD and second "official" live record (not counting a number of Web-site only specials) from Ween cracks open with precisely what you might expect from the sprawlingly unclassifiable duo: organ-kissed blues ("Take Me Away"), menacing grunge ("The Grobe") and boinging pop with a hook sweeter than starlight mints ("Even if You Don't).
Recorded at Chicago's Vic Theatre over three nights last November, "Live" is a capable -- though hardly definitive -- nugget.
Other highlights include the vulgar kiss-off "Baby Bitch," a severely rocked-up "Roses Are Free" and the punk romp "I'll Be Your Jonny on the Spot," which comes with a razor-fired guitar solo that wouldn't sound out of place in the canon of Eddie Van Halen.

Here's my quandary with live albums: the prototypical one selects live favorites-- sometimes from one show, sometimes from multiple shows-- along with a couple of obscure numbers, and one or two covers in the middle to give it the appearance of having more diversity than your garden-variety singles collection.
And yes, there's the gap between studio quality recordings and live recordings, whether it be crisp and vital, or muddy and dull.
Live in Chicago has the charm of a well-recorded audience bootleg sanctioned by the group on one of their best nights.

Wilco’s set a way-high bar with its live performances, of which there are roughly 10 million bootlegs, many quite good.
Aside from being a fine introduction for perverse coworkers who haven’t even heard of Wilco, Kicking Television is a particularly awesome recording, from the grace notes and righteous rage of 1996’s “Misunderstood” to the bigger, gladder swagger of “Late Greats” from 2004’s A Ghost is Born.
The climax of “Radio Cure” produces new chills, “Via Chicago” is lovely and carefully deranged, and “Airline to Heaven” sounds like something you’d hear during a pleasant daydream of your own funeral.

THE MACK : PREFUSE 73: LIVE IN CHICAGO
This wasn't the case last Thursday at the Empty Bottle as Herren, along with a shaggy-haired turntablist and Tortoise's John Herndon on drums, blasted the crowd with the same attention deficit destroying glitch-hop found on his records while maintaining a palpable sense of spontaneity throughout.
Without a doubt, one of the main reasons the performance stood out was due to Herndon's blistering live drums, which broke through the digital beats bubbling out of Herren's iBook and added an unmistakably human aspect to the show.
Instead of dutifully replicating the deft meticulousness of his recorded material, Herren, with the help of some live drums and scratching, added enough impulsive excitement to his live show to make it a unique and thrilling affair in itself.

And despite the presence of several songs that have appeared on previous live releases, Live in Chicago 12.19.98 proves yet again that there's a reason Matthews and company are the most popular touring band in the country.
Yet in what may be an attempt to stand behind Everyday and wait a little bit longer before bending to the wishes of the fans, the band chose to release Live in Chicago, which doesn't include any songs from either 2001 release.
To the general public, Live in Chicago will no doubt be "just another live Dave Matthews Band album," but to those for whom this little gem has been released, it's a concert performance worthy of collecting.

With a Grammy for A Ghost is Born under their belt they hit the road with two new members, garnering acclaim as one of the best live acts in rock and roll.
But, you're right, with the respect that the band finally has garnered for their live show, it was inevitable that the live album would come quickly thereafter, and with the band constantly in arguments with labels, I wouldn't be surprised if it was a forced exposition.
