The college failed in an appeal court bid attacking the government ban on the title being used by HE institutions that have not been granted degree-awarding powers by the Privy Council.
The 150-year-old college believed it had been unfairly treated, but the judges said their decision to ban the use of 'university' in Liverpool Hope's title was justified.
Hope's college secretary, Tony Grayson, said after the ruling: "We are considering talking to the DfEE, perhaps making an appeal, but it is early days yet.

The College had been teaching its Drama and Theatre Studies course in a very old studio on the main campus, but recently received funding to build two new studios in The Cornerstone - a listed building located on the College's Hope at Everton site in Liverpool town centre.
In the last year, Hope's Cinematics, Dance and Music technology courses had all been moved to The Cornerstone, so the intention was to create two multi-purpose theatre studios which could also be used by other Performing Arts courses.
