	Harry B. Liversedge, Brigadier General, United States Marine Corps
		Two decades ago, the name of Liversedge was familiar one in sports page headlines, when as a member of the Navy track squads, he participated in the 1920 and 1924 Olympic Games.
		General Liversedge began his career in May, 1917, when he enlisted as a private, and was commissioned a second lieutenant in September, 1918.
		In January, 1942, General Liversedge departed from the United States for American Samoa, in command of the Second Battalion, Eighth Marines.

		Liversedge had decided as early as 1600 to request this strike, which he considered essential to the success of the operation.
