  Living in the past
Actually, I grew up with these guys and their "stories", as you put it are still as revelvant today as they were twenty years ago and I beg to differ about your take that the "old apple is dead." It's not gone.
The past brought us to where we are today...

 Living in the past?
We trade their humanity and moral greatness, the amazing complexity of their personalities and lives, all that they fought and suffered, for icons of an unlikely omnipotence.
I think this is a perfect condition to lose sight of reality, build up a myth, and live in the past.
Call it living in the past or living in the future -- it is never here, it is never where we really are, what we really are.

  Living in the Past
One possible explanation is because exploring one’s past can be a very uncomfortable process, so much so that sincere Christians have used a misinterpretation of the Bible to substantiate the belief that their personal past is irrelevant.
The past is relevant to the present and plays an important role in my building the lens through which I perceive and interpret life.
Understanding the past and its effect on my lens can be a great help to me, not only in reshaping my lens, but also in living more obediently and wisely before God.

These songs, excluding the two live cuts, are pop gems filled with exceptional musicianship, arrangements, idiosyncratic lyricism, weird isoteric british references(Up the 'pool), humor, touching sentiments, and total originality, each under four and a half minutes, some a minute and a half(Just trying to be, Nursie).
"Living in the Past" is a hodgepodge of old English-only singles, EP sides, album tracks and a couple of live cuts representing a retrospective of the group's earliest instantiations.
"Living in the Past" is ultimately an ironic title because with "Aqualung" and "Thick as a Brick," Jethro Tull were going in a very different direction musically.

 Living Rural
There are those who spend their whole lives trying to recreate the atmosphere of the early settlers in country towns — with their slab bush school, doctor’s surgery, police lock-up and “Mrs Jackson’s” house.
We can be sure that how we lived our days right now will be studied and scrutinized and probably judged even more harshly than we view the past.
Perhaps it is a concern I have that there is a perception among some policy makers that in most rural towns only Aboriginal or people of British origin are in residence- that there is not the diversity of cultures and a need for suitable infrastructural assistance for these people.

To say the Council and living magisterium has been infected with "magisterial positivism," or whatever, and therefore does not faithfully and authoritatively relate the development of Catholic truth is nonsense, no matter how erudite the accusers and obfuscators appear.
It is the task of the living magisterium alone to interpret revelation whether in scripture or tradition as we have said.
It would be preposterous, then, a priori, that the living magisterium could ever teach things that are "objectively opposed to the prior ordinary and extraordinary papal magisterium." This would pit the present Church against the Church of the past and collapse the Church's teaching on indefectibility.
