  Livius Andronicus - LoveToKnow 1911
He is supposed to have been a native of Tarentum, and to have been brought, while still a boy, after the capture of that town in 272, as a slave to Rome.
In 240, the year after the end of the first Punic War, he produced at the ludi Romani a translation of a Greek play (it is uncertain whether a comedy or tragedy or both), and this representation marks the beginning of Roman literature (Livy vii.
Livius himself took part in his plays, and in order to spare his voice he introduced the custom of having the solos (cantica) sung by a boy, while he himself represented the action of the song by dumb show.

 Livius Andronicus
LIVIUS ANDRONICUS, the father of Roman poetry, by birth a Greek of Tarentum, first went to Rome at the commencement of the sixth century from the foundation of the city, as instructor to the children of Livius Salinator.
Livius, as was common at that time, was himself an actor in his own pieces.
It is perfectly clear that the plays of Livius were an improvement on the old scenic saturae, which consisted of dialogue, and that the improvement was simply that of adapting the dialogue to a regular plot.

Marcus Livius Drusus - LoveToKnow 1911
MARCUS LIVIUS DRUSUS, Roman statesman, was colleague of Gaius Gracchus in the tribuneship, 122 B.C. The proposal of Gracchus (q.v.) to confer the full franchise on the Latins had been opposed not only by the senate, but also by the mob, who imagined that their own privileges would thereby be diminished.
His son, Marcus Livius Drusus, became tribune of the people in 91 B.C. He was a thoroughgoing conservative, wealthy and generous, and a man of high integrity.
With some of the more intelligent members of his party (such as Marcus Scaurus and L. Licinius Crassus the orator) he recognized the need of reform.

Chaucer names Livius as his source for Lucretia's story, BD 1084; LGW 1683; it is more likely that he used RR 8608-8616, where the Jealous Husband commends her suicide and regrets that no Lucretia lives in Rome today.
Livius appears in final rhyming position, PhysT 1, BD 1084; Lyvius, a spelling variant, appears in final rhyming position, LGW 1683.

Ivy Livingston, A Linguistic Commentary on Livius Andronicus.
Most of the formations that L. discusses are, not surprisingly, anomalous; and the arguments that she uses to explicate them range from analogical innovation within Latin to fairly elaborate searches for possible cognates in other IE languages.
What is even odder is that Weiss's bibliography is separate from L.'s (although they overlap) and that the addenda and corrigenda to L.'s work appear between Weiss's text and footnotes in a manner that suggests that he, not L., did the correcting.
