Jeff Minter - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In 1982 he founded software house Llamasoft (a company that creates games rather than sells or distributes them is often called a house).
His first game through Llamasoft was Andes Attack (US version: Aggressor): a Defender clone for the Commodore VIC-20, but with little llamas instead of spaceships (a great fan of Defender he would remake it again, and better, although not without flaws as Defender 2000).
His second Llamasoft game, Gridrunner, was written in a week and was his first real success both in the UK and in the USA.

 LLamasoft :: overview
LLamasoft was founded in 1998 to develop advanced software applications which apply the most cutting edge simulation and optimization techniques available to directly solve problems involving supply chain strategic planning.
LLamasoft's vision is to encapsulate the specific application knowledge required to get results from these techniques, to make their power available to business decision makers and non-technical analysts.
With LLamasoft tools, users don't need to spend months or years learning how to build simulation or optimization models of their supply chains.

 Llamasoft main page
Llamasoft flourished for a while, mainly in Europe, and became known for its distinctive style - the games usually contained a degree of humour, references to various ungulates, and satisfying gameplay.
Satisfying to some people, anyway - Llamasoft games weren't to everyone's tastes, but those who did enjoy them were loyal, and Llamasoft is fondly remembered by many.
Our philosophy is simply to create games that are easy to learn, humorous, and which draw on my 20 years' experience as a game designer and therefore are hopefully fun to play, as well.

Based on Llamasoft's proprietary graphics technology entitled Neon, the Llamasoft visualiser comes pre-installed and is driven both by beat detection and by joypad control.
It's better-looking by far than every other vis package, and it delivers precision fingertip control of a kind that no one else has even considered before but which is so intuitive that anyone can pick up the basics in seconds.

I've started posting at Llamasoft under Jamesac, what with some bastard who doesn't even use it stealing my name before I could get it.
It's the Arse On Fire edition done specifically for a Llamasoft party, and it shows a larger playfield with slightly spiffier graphics here and there, and all sorts of goofy new sound effects.
Posted here because it's primarily a Llamasoft board member thing and this is where those people who were old members might look, and it's being distributed more as a favor for the curious by a friendly Llamasoftie than as a new release for the world.

We could have flogged it as a pretty good budget game via conventional means, but Yak decided to try it as shareware 'coz he liked the idea so much.

Entitled Neon, it's "capable of generating anything from soothing ambient swirls to strobing multicolour explosions," according to developer Llamasoft.
Neon is the brainchild of loveable old hippy Jeff Minter, who first came up with the idea of developing a light synthesiser back in 1984 and called his invention Psychedelia.
It got mixed reviews, as Llamasoft's website observes - one journalist wrote that "mere words are too cumbersome to describe its brilliance," while another described it as "pointless hippy nonsense."

Then came the NUON and employment found there (a whole six months of it).
But now Llamasoft is back and developing PC and Pocket PC games: the strategic puzzler Deflex and Grand Theft Flymo, an update of Hover Bovver.
