It occurs with a narrow outcrop in Carmarthenshire at the base of the Silurian, disappearing beneath the Old Red Sandstone westward to reappear in Pembrokeshire; north-eastward the outcrop extends to the Longmynd, which the conglomerate wraps round.
In the Lake district the lower part of the Stockdale shales (Skelgill beds) is of Llandovery age.
In Ireland the Liandovery rocks are represented by the Anascaul slates of the Dingle promontory, by the Owenduff and Gowlaun grits, Co. Galway, by the Upper Pomeroy beds, by the Uggool and Ballaghaderin beds, Co. Mayo, and by rocks of this age in Coalpit Bay and Slieve Felim Mountains.

 Llandovery Castle
Over the next several years, control of Llandovery Castle not only alternated between the Welsh and the English, but the heirs of the Lord Rhys (including Rhys Gryg and Maelgwyn) also fought each other for command of their father's possessions.
In 1277, Llandovery Castle finally fell to Edward I, and the English monarchs continued to control the stronghold until its demise, with the brief exception of a few months in 1282 when Llywelyn the Last captured the castle.
Though neglected from then onward, Llandovery Castle was strong enough to be targeted by Owain Glyndwr during his rebellion in the early 1400's.

One of the more tragic episodes of the war was the sinking of the Llandovery Castle by U 86 on the 27th of June, 1918.
All the soldiers came from one area and were all friends of family and it was a devastating outcome and well documented and remembered.
The Llandovery Castle was in fact attacked whilst my grandfather was on it according to the war diaries of the East Lanc's regiment.
