Llandrindod Wells - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Llandrindod Wells (Welsh: Llandrindod), known locally as "Llandod", is a town in mid Wales.
The reorganisation of local government in 1974 resulted in Llandrindod becoming the capital of the newly-formed administrative county of Powys, which led to an influx of people employed by the new organisation.
Llandrindod has no pubs, but is far from teetotal, having 14 hotels with public bars.

 Llandrindod - LoveToKnow 1911
Llandrindod is a station on the Mid-Wales section of the London and North-Western railway.
The saline, sulphur and chalybeate springs of Llandrindod have long been famous.
According to a treatise published by a German physician, Dr Wessel Linden, in 1754, the saline springs at Ffynon-llwyn-y-gog (" the well in the cuckoos' grove ") in the present parish of Llandrindod had acquired more than a local reputation as early as the year 1696.

Llandrindod managed to bring forward a League game against Llanidloes 2nds but in the meantime the referee for the Cup game had been reallocated elsewhere, it was not possible to find another neutral referee in time and so the game went ahead as a 'friendly' with a home side referee.
Llandrindod's title hopes were ground in to the Aberystwyth mud as their injury hit team were unable to cope with either the conditions or the heavy and dominant Aberystwyth pack.
Llandrindod certainly had the best of the first half hour as their heavier pack dominated and they were rewarded for all their effort with a Michael Martin try, his first for the Club for many a long year.

History of Llandrindod Wells   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-30)
Visitors coming across Llandrindod Wells for the first time are often surprised at the character of its architecture, its large buildings and wide streets; its whole aspect mirrors the gentility of the Spa but one that has managed to avoid the atmosphere of decayed grandeur that has overtaken some less fortunate ‘watering holes’.
In the meantime, the Llandrindod springs were the subject of a work by Dr DiederickWessel Linden and there is no doubt that his publication in 1756 did much to bring these to general notice but few efforts were made towards realizing their potential until the latter half of the 19th century.
Llandrindod bristled with hotels and apartments, new treatment centres, a golf course, bowling and putting greens, two pavilions, a dozen places of worship and a 14 acre boating lake.

Fortunately, the council and townspeople of Llandrindod Wells were not content to see the town free-fall into obscurity, and instead seized the opportunity to consolidate its role as an administrative centre, as well as establishing a light industrial base in the town.
Recent years have seen a welcome increase in visitors holidaying in the area, and Llandrindod Wells boasts a variety of accommodation to suit all tastes and pockets, including large, well-appointed hotels, licensed guest houses, bed and breakfast, farmhouse accommodation, caravanning and camping facilities.

Harry Vardon - The History of Llandrindod Wells Golf Club
He was perhaps the first man in Llandrindod Wells to recognise what an enormous attraction a first class 18 hole golf course would be for the town; he enlisted the support of a few other like minds and looked out for a suitable site for a brand new course and clubhouse convenient to the town.
On the 22nd May, 1905, in the office of Churchill and Co, Solicitors, of Llandrindod Wells, seven gentlemen signed the Articles of Association to form the new Llandrindod Wells Golf Club Company with a share capital of £l,500 in £1.00 shares, and appointed Dr Bowen Davies of Brynarlais to be Chairman of the new Company.
Thus the Llandrindod Wells Golf Club and the Llandrindod Wells Golf Club Company Ltd. were formed and a famous Golf Course was created for the future benefit of visiting golfers to the Spa as well as the local people.
