Llano Uplift - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Llano Uplift is a formation of Precambrian rock, primarily granite, in Central Texas in the United States.
The area is termed an uplift due to the raised status of the Precambrian rocks in comparison to adjacent, completely buried Precambrian strata.
The ancient faulting that produced the Llano Uplift is believed to be related to that which produced the Marathon Uplift in west Texas.

It is formed in central Kimble County, approximately 4 mi (6 km) northwest of Junction, by the confluence of the North Llano and South Llano rivers, both of which rise on the Edwards Plateau north of the Rio Grande.
It flows generally ENE across the Llano Uplift, a basin on the west edge of the Hill Country, through rural Mason and Llano counties, passing north of Enchanted Rock and through the town of Llano.

COLLISIONAL MODEL FOR A GRENVILLE-AGED OROGENIC BELT: LLANO UPLIFT, CENTRAL TEXAS   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-09)
The Llano uplift of central Texas exposes the core of a collisional orogenic belt that formed along the southern margin of Laurentia during Grenville time.
A collisional model is proposed that reconciles differences in structural stacking, apparent tectonic transport, and deformation conditions between the eastern and western portions of the uplift.
Our model suggests that the Llano uplift exposes different segments of the orogenic belt, and most likely different crustal levels, and records different parts of the overall Grenville orogenic history along the southern margin of Laurentia.
