Llanrwst (pronounced [thlanˈroost], or approximately hlanROOST) is a small town and Community on the A470 road and the River Conwy in the county borough of Conwy, traditional county of Denbighshire, North Wales.
The historic Llanrwst Almshouses were constructed in 1610 by Sir John Wynn of Gwydir to house poor people of the parish.
In 1947, Llanrwst town council made an unsuccessful submission to the United Nations for a seat on the security council, stating that Llanrwst was an independent state within Wales.

Llanrwst is the main market town in the Conwy Valley reached either along the A470 or across the River Conwy from Trefriw by a famous bridge, probably designed by Inigo Jones, and built in 1636.
Llanrwst also has an indoor swimming pool and there are lovely walks along the river bank and around the recreation grounds.
In Llanrwst itself is the church of St Grwst, built in the 15th century.

It comprised the township of Gwydir, in Caernarfonshire (the area of which was 7694 acres); and a number of townships in Denbighshire, with an area of 15,298 acres.
When Civil Registration was introduced (on 1 July 1837), the parish of Llanrwst was assigned to the No. 1 ("Llanrwst") sub-district of the Llanrwst Registration District; which was co-extensive with the Llanrwst poor law Union.

Huw Jones, whose home was one of the houses which took the brunt of the flooding in Llanrwst's Conwy Terrace, just a few metres from the river, had called for an inquiry.

The origin of selling Welsh books in Llanrwst dates back to the early fifties of the last century when two young teachers in Flintshire decided to do something about the dreadfully poor opportunities to acquire Welsh literature.
This original idea was developed further when Dafydd established a book stall on the square in Llanrwst on market and fair days.
Both of them visited Llanrwst and bought a combined shop and house unit in a small cul-de-sac near the square at the end of the summer in 1955.
