Biography for Lloyd Bacon   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-04)
Lloyd Bacon was born in San Jose, California on January 16, 1890 into a theatrical family (his father was Frank Bacon, a playwright and legitimate actor).
Lloyd switched gears in 1915 and took a stab at silent Hollywood, playing the heavy in Gilbert M. 'Broncho Billy' Anderson shorts and pulling duty as a stunt double.
Bacon continued to grind out profitable films for the studio until moving to 20th Century Fox from 1944-49 (a logical move, since the recently discharged Darryl F. Zanuck knew Bacon from his early days at Warner's), then bounced between Columbia, Fox, Universal and the chaotically-ran RKO in 1954.

 Clarke v. Marlborough (15/5/2001)
Bacon, it is said, did not know the price at which the works were offered for sale to third parties, the price at which they were sold, the insurance value or the commission or profit made by the Defendants in respect of each painting.
Lloyd and David Somerset for their own account (and there is certainly nothing in the memorandum which says as much) it is quite unrealistic to regard the role of Marlborough UK (whether through Miss Beston or anyone else) as constituting an agency for Bacon.
Bacon is recorded as having agreed to reduce "his price" to $60,000 which is a reference to what is sometimes described as the cost price paid by the gallery to Bacon.

Lloyd Bacon - Films as Director:, Other Films:
Lloyd Bacon is probably best known for his director's credit on such classic Warner Bros. films as 42nd Street, Footlight Parade, Knute Rockne—All American, and Action in the North Atlantic.
For a time Bacon was considered to be the top musicals specialist at Warner Bros. The corporation paid him accordingly, some $200,000 per year, making him one of its highest paid contract directors of the 1930s.
Bacon's most significant contribution to film history probably came during his early days at Warner Bros. as that studio pioneered new sound technology in the late 1920s.

The son of Broadway star Frank Bacon and brother of director Lloyd Bacon, Irving Bacon was on stage from the time he could walk.
Irving was often cast in the films directed by his brother Lloyd; in The Amazing Dr. Clitterhouse (1938) it is Irving, as a flustered jury foreman, who delivers the film's punchline.
Irving Bacon kept his hand in throughout the 1950s, appearing in a sizeable number of TV situation comedies.

Combustible Celluloid film review - The Busby Berkeley Collection (2006), Lloyd Bacon, James Cagney, Ginger Rogers, dvd ...
Critics complained that Berkeley's numbers had little to do with one another, or in fact, little to do with the plot of the movie in question; it's likely that Berkeley simply came up with the numbers independently of one another and simply used his most recent idea.
His first, and most beloved film is still 42nd Street (1933), directed by Lloyd Bacon, in which a relentless, but secretly kind-hearted, director (Warner Baxter) tries to whip a bunch of singers and dancers together for a Broadway show, while a love triangle untangles itself.
Notice how the camera swoops and dives to capture all the perfectly-timed activity, both dazzling and shocking, in a fictionalized New York Broadway district.

 Wonder Bar
At virtually every level of its narrative and mise en scène, Wonder Bar, like these other films, affronted the standards of good taste and conventional morality inscribed in the 1930 Production Code which was in effect at the time the film was made in November and December 1933.
For that reason, Bacon and Berkeley's collaboration was, and still remains, one which flirts with transgression, and stupefies and delights in equal measure.
This series married broad comedy, helmed by such contract directors as Mervyn LeRoy and Lloyd Bacon, with extravagantly cinematic musical numbers conceived and directed by Busby Berkeley.

Lloyd Bacon, a director best known for helming the Busby Berkeley musicals 42nd Street and Footlight Parade (both 1933), directed this WWII favorite, a sentimental but well-balanced "true story" of five brothers.
The film's first hour or so deals with the childhood of the five boys and the various forms of mischief they conjure, from scuffing their Sunday best to busting a hole through the kitchen wall.
