Lloyd and his younger brother Leo (who later co-wrote Little Richard's "Send Me Some Lovin'") put together a band for local consumption while in their teens.
Price's profile went on the upswing since -- he guested on a PBS-TV special with Huey Lewis & the News, and regularly turned up to headline the Jazz & Heritage Festival in his old hometown.

Setting the stage for rock `n' roll, he was one of the few fl performers of his time who crossed over to the pop side, and one of the rare singers who wrote nearly all of his hits.
For those unaware of Price or his contributions, "The Best of Lloyd Price" edition of "20th Century Masters/The Millennium Collection" (MCA/UME), released July 2, 2002, sets the record straight with 11 digitally remastered classics.
Price exited the label in 1962 and with Harold Logan formed Double-L, which debuted the solo Wilson Pickett.

Price approached numerous record executives with his plan, but was turned down by all of them.
An early Double-L single by Price was "Pistol Packing Mama." Price's biggest hit for Double-l was a 1963 revival of an old standard "Misty." The follow-up single was "Billie Boy" was a powerful jazz version of"Won't You Come Home, Bill Bailey." It was also the last of Price's singles to attract national attention.
Price moved to Scepter Records in 1971, There he recorded "Hooked On A Feeling." The song was out of his vocal range and the instrumentation was to lush for his raw voice.

Price recorded more hits during his early-Fifties tenure at Specialty, but his career was interrupted by the Korean War.
Price’s biggest year was 1959, during which he released four hits: “Personality,” “Where Were You (On Our Wedding Day),” “I’m Gonna Get Married” and “Come Into My Heart.” His entrepreneurial skill led to the helming of more labels (Double-L and Turntable), as well as a New York City nightclub (Lloyd Price’s Turntable).
January 12, 1998: Lloyd Price is inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at the thirteenth annual induction dinner.
