The Lloydtown Rebellion of 1837 was part of the Upper Canada Rebellion.
During the 1830s, Lloydtown was well-known as a site for reform sympathisers, and regular meetings were hosted by Jesse Lloyd.

Unresolved with the issues that plagued him and with the government troops hot on his heels, Lloyd fled to the United Sates after Mackenzie was defeated and he died in exile at the age of 53.
For 50 years after its founding by the Jesse Lloyd family, it was said that Lloydtown was second in importance as a significant community to the town of Toronto itself.
When the Ontario, Simcoe and Union Railroad was constructed between 1851-55 and ran from Toronto through Richmond Hill and then north to the settlement of Barrie, it was decided to by-pass Lloydtown and an era ended.

Communities such as Lloydtown, Kettleby and Schomberg benefited from the fast flowing streams and rivers that provided a good power source for saw and grist mills.
In the 1830's, Lloydtown became a well-known hotbed of reform sympathy and meetings were held in Jesse Lloyd's home.
Early on monday morning, December the 4th, Jesse Lloyd and his followers left Lloydtown and joined other patriots from East Gwillimbury, Whitchurch and the east half of King on their March down Yonge Steet towards Toronto.

Assisted by grants from the Netherlands, Canada and Ontario, fifteen Dutch families many from Friesland and Gronigen originally, settled on the marsh in 1934 and formed the nucleus of the community of Ansnorvelot.
By 1870 Kettleby's population was 100, but with local timber exhausted and the Ontario Simcoe and Huron Railway by-passing the village, Kettleby declined as an industrial centre to become a rural hamlet.

I was treated to a dizzying array of exhaust notes, and exhaust fumes of all sorts of two, three, and four wheeled vehicles on the gradual ascent along the river valley.
Climbing out of the river valley is always a treat as the steep slope has switchbacks, which is the closest thing in Ontario we have to anything in the real mountains in western Canada or in Europe.
Ontario isn't known for its large hills, and we are only talking about 240 m or so of fall, but this was absolutely sensational.

Schomberg, situated approximately a mile east of Lloydtown, was first named Brownsville, in honour of early settlers in the area by the name of Brown.
In 1830, John R. Brown, a Pennsylvania Quaker, accompanied by three brothers, emigrated to Canada, and it is reported that they settled on lot 26, concession 8, King Township.
It is believed that the first school was erected in 1820, on a knoll east of the southeast corner of the ninth concession and Lloydtown road, and served the community for twenty-five years.

In Lloydtown on the SW corner of Little Rebel Road and Rebellion Way, 1.7 km west of the intersection of Highway 27 and Lloydtown-Aurora Road one concession south of Highway 9.
The erection of a grist-mill, sawmill and woolen mill, two tanneries, stores and a number of pioneer industries hastened Lloydtown's growth.
He raised and trained a local force, but following MacKenzie's defeat Lloyd was forced to flee to the United States where he died in exile.

Unless further evidence indicates otherwise it will be classified as a 2002 formation.
A possible snow circle was located by CCCRN Field Researcher, Matt Rock in early January, 2003 in the same general area as many of the Ontario summer 2002 crop circle formations.
The 'snow circle' is an oblong, oval or elliptical shape of approximately 25 x 35 feet by 35 x 40 in a large, harvested field of rape seed crop just south of the Lloydtown-Aurora Sideroad, Dufferin County.

After crossing the covered bridge (the only one left on Ontario), we found the park and the road full of people which we had to carefully dodge.
Just before the turn west on CR 17, we were passed by dozens of Jaguars, new and old.
These are two of my favourite Ontario towns - so many beautiful old stone century houses.

 William A. Agnew, LLoydtown, Ontario
Looking for any information about William A. Agnew, his wife Cecilia Stogdill and their family who lived in the Township of King, (Lloydtown/Schomberg), Ontario area.
Both are buried in the Lloydtown Pioneer Cemetery along with most of their children.
The date on their headstone indicates he died in 1910 but I have been unable to find a copy of his death certificate or any other information about him.

He worked building the local railroad stations from Tottenham to North Portal, Ontario when the railroad was first established in the area.
This was the original "Tyson Mill Farm" on the Schomberg River outside of Lloydtown, Ontario once owned by Isaac Tyson who, in 1837, purchased the grist mill in Lloydtown built by Jesse Lloyd.
Some of the original log structure of the old mill and the stonework of the mill dam on this farm could still be seen as late as the 1960's.
