 Llywelyn the Last - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Llywelyn was the second of the four sons of Gruffydd, the eldest son of Llywelyn the Great, and Senena ferch Rhodri.
Llywelyn restored his lands to Rhys, but the result of this was that the king's envoys approached Maredydd and offered him all Rhys' lands again if he would change sides, and Maredudd paid homage to Henry in late 1257.
Llywelyn's elder brother Owain Goch disappears from the record in 1282 and the presumption is that he was murdered.

Llywelyn ap Gruffydd, or Llywelyn Ein Llyw Olaf (Llywelyn Our Last Leader) is regarded as being one of the last leaders of Wales as a unified nation.
In 1255, Llywelyn ap Gruffydd was declared ruler of Gwynedd and by 1258 the Assembly of Welsh magnates pledged allegiance to him as the self-styled Prince of Wales.
Llywelyn was forced to give way to the treaty of Aberconwy, and concede all the territory he had gained, bar Gwynedd.

Gruffydd ap Llywelyn (Seisyll) becomes king of Gwynedd and Powys and defeats the Saxons of Mercia in the battle of Rhyd-y-groes on the Severn.
In the "Brut", it is stated that Llywelyn "enlarged his boundaries by his wars, gave justice to all according to their deserts, and by the bonds of fear or love bound all men duly to him." He was further recognised as pre-eminent in Wales by the new king Henry III.
Llywelyn captures and destroys the castles of Carreg Faelan and Degannwy as the Welsh rise in an attempt to eject the English.

Llewelyn ap Gruffydd (died 1282), Prince of Wales, is considered the last champion of Welsh liberty and the last effective native ruler.
Llewelyn ap Gruffydd was the son of Gruffydd ap Llewelyn ap lorwrth (died 1244) and Senena.
At the end of 1275 Llewelyn's bride-to-be, Eleanor, daughter of Simon de Montfort, was seized by Edward I on her way to Wales, causing a fierce-attack on the Marcher lords, and he was driven to submitting to the English only after Edward's expedition which ended in the Treaty of Conway in 1277.
