Dar iti recomand sa cauti ceva documentatii despre programul Lnx4Win.
Lnx4win installs Linux-Mandrake to an image file on a hard drive and creates a desktop shortcut that allows the user to boot from MS Windows to Mandrake.
Lnx4win also uses a swap file rather than a swap partition.

I burned the ISO directly to cd but still there is no lnx4win dir.
Since lnx4win IS such a package, I suspect that it's on CD3.

I have the Mandrake linux 8.0 installed for a while now and I got the manfrake 8.1 2 CDs from online magazine, my problem is that I can't find the lnx4win files on both ditributions which is used to install Linux on top of a Windows partition.
The directory "lnx4win" is on both ditributions but it is empty, and it is also empty on the FTP site of linux-mandrake.com and I can't it anywhere on the net.

 Linux-Mandrake: Install Guide
Lnx4Win (Linux for Windows) is what you need if you don't want to partition your hard disk at all.
As a general rule, put 64 MB if you have 64 MB RAM or less, otherwise an amount which is equal to your RAM.
However, the script will not delete the installation directory: you will have to do that by hand.

 lnx4win HELP!?!? - LinuxQuestions.org
Ok well i downloaded mandrake 8.2, decided i'd use lnx4win just to see what linux was all about.
Well i decided to look on the mandrake website for lnx4win, i actually found a download link for the image, but it was broken.
It's not hard (even in expert mode), it's fun (well, installing is boring, but running it is fun) and it's certainly an experience.

 Mandrake-Lnx4Win & A Text Installation - Neowin.net
The reason I ask is because either my video card or my monitor have gotten mesed up no matter what distro I try the graphical installations start but then the screen goes fl and I can not longer see what's going on.
As for installation modes, the only one that seems to work is the TEXT installation, but then again the only choices I see is to resize my current Windows partition or to erase the entire disk.
I really wanted to instal Lnx4Win this time and have no intention of messing with my Windows Partition.

If that still doesn't work, you'll have to remove it manually.

12-14-01 11:35 PM Yes it as long as you currently have win98 already installed you can either press F1 when the Mandrake cd boots and type in LNX4WIN at the command prompt all this will do is create a folder within windows that will house Linux.
The better way is to run the recommended setup by Mandrake and re partition your hd in order to format some of it and use Mandrakes filesystem.

 Linux-Mandrake: Install Guide
Set this option to No: the BIOS will then initialize any plug'n'play devices and that can help Linux recognize some devices in your machine which it would not otherwise.
If your BIOS can boot up from the CDROM and you want to perform a standard installation of Linux-Mandrake (not using Lnx4Win), you can also set your BIOS to boot from the CDROM before searching the hard disk.
If you will be using Lnx4Win you will not need a bootdisk, so you may skip this step and go on to Chapter 5.0, which deals with Lnx4Win.

 MUO - Installation - Partitioning
You can avoid repartitioning by using 'Lnx4Win', which will create a virtual partition on top of your existing MS-Windows partition.
Performance and stability however are much better if you decide to run GNU/Linux on its own file system, 'extfs2'.
You can find 'Lnx4Win' on your Mandrake CD.

Note that I'm not recommending resizing a partition without backing up the data first - but I've yet to lose data.

I curently have mandrake 7.0 installed using the lnx4win setup now I know it is very slow because it uses the windows FAT partion which it not designed for it.
My current pc has a 166mmx chip and 64mb of ram.
I haven't used any of the earlier versions, but I can tell you the set up wizards make it pretty easy to install.
