		Lo Barnechea is a municipality (comuna) of the province of Santiago, part of the Santiago Metropolitan Region in Chile.
		Though sparsely populated, Lo Barnechea is the largest municipality within the province of Santiago with an area of 1,024 km².
		According to the 2002 census, Lo Barnechea has a population of 74,749.

		The need to recover water for irrigation was caused by the damage affecting the community during the drought period in that area, which became even worse in the summer of 1997.
