Load testing - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Load testing is usually carried out to a load 1.5x the SWL (Safe Working Load) periodic recertification is required.
When the load placed on the system is raised beyond normal usage patterns, in order to test the system's response at unusually high or peak loads, it is known as Stress testing.
The load is usually so great that error conditions are the expected result, although there is a gray area between the two domains and no clear boundary exists when an activity ceases to be a load test and becomes a stress test.

 Load Testing.
An important variation of the load test is the Network Sensitivity Test, which incorporates WAN segments into a load test as most applications are deployed beyond a single LAN.
The important thing to understand in executing such a load test is that the load is generated at a protocol level, by the load generators, that are running scripts developed with the VUGen tool.
Most load tests would not employ a WinRunner PC to measure actual response times from the client perspective, but is highly recommended where complex and variable processing is performed on the desktop after data has been delivered to the client.

Software testing - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Testing during the beta phase, informally called 'beta testing, is generally constrained to fl box techniques although a core of test engineers are likely to continue with white box testing in parallel to the beta tests.
Load testing Is the practice of modeling the expected usage of a software program by simulating multiple users accessing the program's services concurrently.
Portability testing is testing the ease with which an application or component can be moved from one environment (e.g., hardware, operating system, and browser) to another.

SF AIDS Fdn: AIDS 101 -- Viral Load Testing
The RT-PCR test chemically multiplies viral RNA that exists in the sample by a factor of approximately one million (this is the "chain reaction" which its name describes.) The amount of RNA in the sample is then easy to measure, but that amount is calculated, so this test measures the RNA indirectly.
Sensitivity of a test is its ability to detect the virus when it is present, and to not report "false negative." Specificity of a test is its ability to detect only HIV and nothing else, so as not to report false positive.
Because viral load testing is still a relatively new diagnostic tool, baseline viral load is used as one indicator of viral activity, but is not yet determined to be an absolute.

 Load Testing
In load testing the software under test in subjected to various levels of "load", to test its behaviour.
The testing has to be conducted within a structured framework otherwise its results are open to question.
If it can only be tested once the integration has taken place and a fault occurs, was the problem with the cart or somewhere else in the system.

TTN On-Line Edition for September 2002
The use of these terms in the QA literature varies to the point that sometimes load testing is defined as a type of performance test, or performance test is a type of load test, or (somewhat common, actually) load testing is not worth mentioning explicitly.
Load Testing Definition: Any type of testing where the outcome of a test is dependent on a workload (realistic or hyper-realistic) explicitly characterized, simulated and submitted to the SUT.
Scalability testing is a subtype of performance test where performance requirements for response time, throughput, and/or utilization are tested as load on the SUT is increased over time.

QA Forums: FAQ - Performance & Load Testing
Load Test — Most commonly collects various performance related measurements based on tests that model varying loads and activities that the application is expected to encounter when delivered to real users.
Load Testing tools work at protocol level to generate the traffic/requests which would normally be generated by users driving the User Interface of your application.
However, in the scope of Load Testing these users are often simulated by using a functional/GUI testing tool to drive a ‘real GUI’ in order to capture the performance overhead/cost of the GUI as versus the protocol level requests generated by the Virtual Users.
