Local Church controversy   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
The '\"local churches" (called The Local Church' by critics and outsiders) are Christian churches that are established and meet based upon the ground of locality; that is, the principle that all Christians in a city or locality are members of the one church in that locality.
Those in the Local Church claim that they began with Watchman Nee in the 1920s in China, whereas critics claim that they were started by Witness Lee, a coworker of Watchman Nee who brought the movement to the United States in the 1960s.
As Witness Lee never claimed the name "Local Church" for the movement, and since the name was applied by those outside the movement, the term "local church" cannot be considered a trademark or trade name of any organization and remains in the public domain.

Local churches - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The local churches have emphatically avoided incorporation into one definite or legal entity, based on the belief that the Christian Church is not an organization, but rather a living organism.
The local churches organize on two basic principles, both centered on the firm belief that all Christians are universally one Body in Christ.
The local churches contend that the practices of multiple congregations organizing as denominations, and the practice of individual congregations within a city splitting to form "independent churches" are unbiblical and divisive, as they are based on human preferences rather than on receiving everyone whom Christ has received.

The Lordship of Christ in the Local Church Study #39: The Importance of Preaching
Paul has been dealing with the concept of the Church as the Body of Christ, the fact that the Church is not just a place we come to on Sunday, but rather that all of us are members of a body, members of a family.
There are some in our church who have been involved in the gift of tongues and believe that it should be a part of the Christian life today, and I want to say at the onset I'm not attacking those individuals.
We should pray, in other words, that our church would be filled with a thorough complement of all the gifts, that we should covet the best gifts for our church, that the spiritual gifts within our church, exercised properly, is the key to how effective that church will be.
