 Local Bubble
These observations have led astronomers to conclude that the Bubble was formed between a few hundred thousand and a few million years ago by several relatively nearby supernova explosions that pushed aside gas and dust in the ISM leaving the current depleted expanse of hot, low density material.
Notice that the local cavity is surrounded by many of these condensations, but this "wall" is broken in several places by low density interstellar tunnels that link the local cavity with other nearby bubble cavities such as the Pleiades and GSH 238+00+09.
When the Local Bubble and the Loop I collided, the Local Fluff Complex formed at the boundary between the two.

The ionization of the local interstellar medium   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-06)
Our present picture of the local interstellar medium (the gas lying between the stars out to about 100pc) is that the Sun is embedded in and near the edge of a wispy diffuse "local" cloud (or local fluff).
The current state of the gas in both the local cloud and bubble is expected to bear the imprint of recent nearby events, such as supernova explosions and radiation from hot young stars.
However, these results are best explained by a non-equilibrium scenario in which the local cloud was ionized by the shock wave from a nearby supernova explosion, since when the ions and electrons have been slowly recombining.

Will the Sun soon be passing through a dust cloud?
It has been known for some years that the Sun is located near a cloud known as the Local Fluff, which in turn is inside a vast cavity in the interstellar medium called the Local Bubble.
There is, apparently, a medium called the Local Fluff in which the solar system is embedded, which has a density of about 0.1 atoms/cc, a temperature of 10,000 K, and a relative velocity with respect to the solar system of about 20 km/sec based on a slight doppler shift in the reflected emission.
Observations by Dr. Jeffrey Linsky at the University of Colorado of 18 nearby stars indicated that the Local Fluff cloud surrounding the solar system was not a uniform cloud, but contained cloudlets of very different internal density with one of these located between the Sun and the nearby star Alpha Centauri.

The assumption that the Local Fluff is ionized by epsilon CMa - which is located at (l,b)=(240,-11) and determines the EUV radiation field at lambda > 540 Å (Vallerga, 1998) - is consistent with observed gradient in H ionization.
The stellar EUV radiation is too weak to cause such ionization, and that radiation from the interface between the Local Fluff and Hot Bubble may be important (Slavin & Frisch, 1998).

Local TV shows should definitely cover violent topics and other issues that people don't want to see—as well as amusing stories—but to repeat the same very narrow band of four topics day after day is not news.
Despite its divergence from the accepted standards of professional journalists, the narrow and sensational content of local TV news might not be so deplorable if it were not for this fact: Local TV news stations are licensed by the Federal Communications Commission to broadcast in the public interest.
