		Chapter six applies to locals, "Most troubling...was the growth of private mail companies whose intracity and intercity services, using newly completed rail lines, diverted a large portion of the lucrative letter mail from the post office." Notes the 1845 Act exempted "newspapers, pamphlets, magazines and periodicals" from the post office monopoly of delivering mail.
		The Private Local Posts of the United States; a study of the history of the adhesive stamps with their reprints and forgeries.
		Locals require study by the best intellects of amateurs." Also notes, "Local stamps have been neglected for many years and probably will never again be fashionable.

	NASA Local Post Information Sheet - Joe Frasketi's Space Covers
		It should also be pointed out, that the NASA locals are not U.S. postage, but a local post issue, and are used on cover only when there is the regular first class rate of U.S. postage used and properly cancelled at a U.S. Post Office.
		Most of the NASA Local Post covers issued are first day covers (of the local post stamp), however the same local post stamps may be found on covers after their first day of issue to commemorate an event in the same space flight, and these are considered commemorative local post covers.
		All of their local post stamps exist in perforated condition and all local post covers have a "normal" local post stamp.

	Kaulbach Island - Scout Local Post Issues
		From 1971 to 1984, local postal labels were issued by the Kaulbach Island Local Carriage Service on mail that was transported to and from the island to the mainland.
		Canada Post approved the service provided that the local stamps were affixed to the back of envelopes, which had Canadian postage stamps on the front for entry into the Canadian postal system.
		The Kaulbach Island Local Carriage Service ceased operations in 1984 when the island was closed to tourists due to concerns about the increasing damage to the island's ecology.

	Alphabetilately: Wyman Local Post
		Contrary to popular belief, the Wyman's Local stamp was indeed sold singly (at 6 cents) and in bulk (5 cents, a 1 cent saving) directly to patrons.
		The fact that it was sold in multiples to customers is evidenced by the "20 For One Dollar" printed on the stamp itself, and confirmed by contemporary ads Wyman placed, copies of which I have, in both Boston and New York city papers of the day.
		But in 1995 the Scott publishing firm replaced most of the forgeries in the locals section of the Scott catalogue, more than 50 cuts in all, using shots with my permission, from my exposé article for the Penny Post, which I founded and was editor of during the 1990s.
