The Lochaber axe, also called a Juddart axe, was a Scottish war axe that came into use around 1600.
The Lochaber was a heavy weapon, which was used by foot soldiers, for a defense against cavalry.
By around 1767, the Lochaber axe was used mainly as a ceremonial weapon by the town guard of Edinburgh, Scotland.

As some people who read this may already know, Lochaber is a district in Scotland.
Basically there was reference in a David Eddings novel to a Lochaber axe, I thought it was a nice sounding word and started using it as a handle on some BBS's, games and the like.
As I mentioned, this was a long time ago and I was living in Singapore at the time, I never come across the district.

Lochaber, the Wolfville based Celtic quartet, has signed an exclusive representation deal with Ardenne International Inc. In discussion over the past month, Michael Ardenne, President of the Halifax artist and event management company, con­firmed that the deal was inked at the ECMA conference in St. Johns, Newfoundland.
Lochaber is currently developing material for their second CD release and we look forward to hearing it.

A local group under the banner of 'Lochaber GO' recently tried to persuade the Scottish Executive to have a public local inquiry into the planning consent for the 35 year extension for the landfill site at Duisky, Locheil.
On 28th February 2005 Highland Council, Lochaber held a meeting to discuss a planning application for a massive extension to a privately operated landfill site.
The Lochaber Councillors voted unanimously in favour of the planning applicaton.

The club was re-formed as Lochaber Camanachd in the season 1958-59 following a previous amalgamation in 1946 and subsequent split from 1949 to 1958 of the Brae Lochaber and Spean Bridge clubs.
They were often drawn against each other in competitions and there was one occasion when, in the Camanachd Cup, the tie was drawn three times and had to be settled by a game which was played to a finish.
John Macdonald of Keppoch was captain of Brae Lochaber and was one of the principal men behind the formation of the Camanachd Association of which he was president from 1898 to 1914.
