The City of Lockport is the county seat of Niagara County and is surrounded by the Town of Lockport.
Lockport is at the junction of several major trunk roads, including NY Route 78 (North Transit Road), New York State Route 31, and New York State Route 77.
In the city the population was spread out with 25.8% under the age of 18, 8.4% from 18 to 24, 30.6% from 25 to 44, 20.9% from 45 to 64, and 14.3% who were 65 years of age or older.

The feasibility of constructing an influent hydropower generating facility at the City of Lockport`s Wastewater Treatment Plant was studied, in addition to studying potential upstream storage capacity.
Computer modeling and engineering calculations were used to investigate potential hydropower generation on the influent side of the wastewater treatment plant and potential peak flow attenuation by utilization upstream in-situ storage capacity in the collection system.
The study concluded that an influent hydropower facility could generate up to 700,800 kWh per year for the City; however, the time to recover the construction costs for the facility would be approximately 26 years, which was considered unreasonable.

 GOVERNOR PATAKI ANNOUNCES $3 MILLION FOR LOCKPORT
Governor George E. Pataki today announced the City of Lockport has received more than $3 million in interest-free loans for projects that will prevent potential pollutants from flowing into the Erie Canal and Eighteenmile Creek.
The interest-free loans from the State Environmental Facilities Corporation (EFC) will enable the City to build a secondary clarifier at its wastewater treatment facility, helping to improve water quality in Eighteenmile Creek and to eliminate sewer overflows in residential areas during storms.
State Senator George D. Maziarz said, "These loans and grants will be of great help to the City of Lockport as they will defray the expenses of an otherwise costly project.
