Category:Strategy computer games - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Strategy games focus on careful planning and skillful resource management in order to achieve victory.
Classified as "thinking games," these products are targeted at teens and a more mature audience.
Most of these games are turn-based as opposed to real-time (often abbreviated RTS), but there are some that are realtime or mix the two types of play (such as X-Com).

 fAf :: Ezine - reviews
In contrast within computer game studies there is an overemphasis on ludus and narrative as defining and at times oppositional aspects of computer gameplay with minimal critical examination of navigation as the carrier of cultural meaning.
His argument that games exist outside of narrative media ecology is extended in Eskelinen's [3] claim that stories or narratives are irrelevant uninteresting ornaments or gift-wrapping to games.
Instead the spatiality of computer games marks a shift in importance from narrative to geography where players have experiences, which are not centrally narrative based or confined to narrative experiences.

All manner of computer game AI questions have been posed and answered and then refuted during the dinner, all in a good natured and community spirited manner.
For the new computer game AI programmer or someone just becoming familiar with computer game AI, this review would be an invaluable summary of all the tools available to be used in developing computer game AI.

Cutscenes represent video games (and their music) at their least interactive, where the player is watching passively as he would a film, and therefore the potential emotional effect of the music on the player is just as great as it would be for a film score.
The game focuses on a girl named Terra and her mysterious connection to a group of magical beings called Espers; the player is drawn into the struggle to reveal Terra's shadowy past while battling an evil mastermind bent on destroying the world.
In-game version of "Swan Theme." The rallentandos, crescendos, and decrescendos that Sanger employed in this translation of Tchaikovsky's famous theme were all brand-new to the game music world at the time, but his work proved that game music could be held up to the same standards as traditional classical music.

Chris Sawyer's Locomotion demo Impressions - Groovalicious Games
Locomotion bears a strong resemblance to that earlier game, as well as containing elements present in the SimCity and Railroad Tycoon franchises.
This initially gives the impression that Locomotion is a very shallow game, although I don't think that's the case, as I've uncovered additional features during successive replays.
I was also expecting to be able to pause the game during construction, but while you can pause it to give yourself time to look around, as soon as you take any significant action, the game resumes.

But if you fall into this category, and you find yourself playing locomotion and saying, "Why didn't the programmer do it this way?" know that the answer is he did do it that way, 10 years ago.
Locomotion is a deceptively simple game: build a railroad track from one town to the next (or one industry to the next), buy a train to run on it, then begin to expand your transportation empire from there.
Locomotion is worth every dollar, and probably the absolute best money I've spent on entertainment in my life.

This is more fun than many computer games, but it's a *lot* less fun than the previous edition of the game.
The core of this game is the historical gameplay ranging from the very birth of railways to the future in some scenarios.
The game originally was slightly bug ridden, not terrible, but frustrating, fortunately the Coast to Coast Free Expansion from the manufacturer solves many crashing issues as well as including a huge number of new maps, scenarios and even some trains, including some Soviet ones, which is pretty amazing.

Locomotion has a simple premise, but it's tougher to get a handle on the game's mechanics than was true in Rollercoaster Tycoon.
If you're looking for a simple, fun game, Locomotion is fine for teenagers and other gamers with a good deal of experience.

These games can be so addictive, that some people tend to completely forgo the boredoms of everyday life and relationships, and have even gone so far as marry characters online.

Computer games began with a simple problem, and this problem had to be solved by a geek.
It had...a cathode ray tube display...Here was this display that could do all sorts of good things!  So we started talking about it, figuring what would be interesting displays.  We decided that probably you could make a two-Dimensional maneuvering sort of thing, and decided that naturally the obvious thing to do was spaceships.
Computer games continued to be developed in the institutional setting after Spacewar!'s conception.  Games like Hunt the Wumpus, Adventure, and Zork, however, moved away from the graphical display used in Spacewar!

This game is not Riven, and the technology utilised is not meant to create Riven, anymore than it was meant to create Zork or Arcadia.
It will be familiar to anyone who has played a first person action game, and may disappoint some fervent point-and-clickers, but it contributes admirably to the realism that is being sought here.

The 1990s brought general popularity to computer gaming.  In the 1980s, computer use was limited to electronics enthusiasts and people with large disposable incomes.  Mike Dornbrook, former vice president of marketing for Infocom, recalled that "ten percent of the mailing list at Infocom had MD after their name."
The primary companies pushing this angle are Square and EA (remember their original company line?).  Square is the maker of the incredibly popular Final Fantasy series of RPGs for the Playstation.  The most recent game in the series, Final Fantasy IX, sold 2.8 million copies shortly after it was released in Japan.
