Republican Party (United States) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Republican Party was established in 1854 by a coalition of former Whigs, Northern Democrats, and Free-Soilers who opposed the expansion of slavery and held a vision for modernizing the United States.
Since 1995, the Republicans have held majorities in the House of Representatives and in the Senate, except for brief periods of Democratic Party majority in the Senate from January 3-20, 2001 and from June 6, 2001 to November 12, 2002.

 Definition of Log Cabin Republicans
The name of the organization is a reference to the first Republican President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln, who was born in a log cabin, and who is believed by some historians to have been either gay or bisexual.
Log Cabin supported the election of George W. Bush at the 2000 Presidential election, but has since been critical of many actions (and inactions) of the Bush Administration.
Accordingly, Log Cabin Republicans have condemned Bush's support for a Constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage in all states, although they have tried to avoid criticizing Bush by name, preferring to attack the influence of the "radical right" on the Republican Party.

And Log Cabin certainly acted like they were supporting Kerry, spending, for example, more time bashing Bush in a press statement ostensibly faulting Kerry for attempting to use the Vice President’s daughter as a wedge between the President and his base.
The LCR should have spent the now-famous $1,000,000 demonstrating their commitment to Republican principles in those races…and shown they were still “good Republicans” to the Party at the federal and state-levels.
Log Cabin’s statements on this were so banal, so milquetoasty, as if they’re going out of his way to say nothing to avoid risking offending anyone.

The Log Cabin Republicans, who watched conservatives attempt and fail to pass a constitutional ban on gay marriage, are having trouble endorsing Bush for a second round.
Back then, however, Log Cabin stated it believed the president when he said he was a compassionate conservative and "a uniter, not a divider"; his position at the time was that same-sex marriage should be handled at the state level, as opposed to the form of an amendment.
After Log Cabin endorsed a more gay-friendly John McCain during the Republican primary campaign, an informal group of conservative gay men and lesbians known as the Austin 12 acted as a kind of sounding board for the Bush-Cheney campaign.
