The county was named by Abraham Lincoln, a member of the General Assembly at the time and the prime mover in forming the county, in honor of his friend Dr. John Logan, a well known Illinois pioneer and fellow member of the Illinois General Assembly.
Logan, father of Civil War General John A. Logan, was a resident of Murphysboro.

 Meridian Township History
The county was almost entirely a dense wilderness in 1842, and wild animals were plenty, particularly deer, bears, and wolves.
MARSH was a prominent and respected citizen, and one of the earliest justices of the peace in the township.
On the 4th of February, 1865, at a special township-meeting, the electors authorized the township board to pay all volunteers who should enlist in the United States army, and be duly credited to the township, $200, and that the board pay all drafted men $100.

The Michigan Water Environment Association will introduce the Water Sourcebook education program produced by the Tennessee Valley Authority with funding from the EPA to 300 middle school teachers in Washtenaw County, Michigan.
The goal of the program is to increase citizen awareness of the county's environmental programs and services and to gain input from citizens to ensure that county programs meet the expressed needs of underrepresented communities of color.
