New Jersey will sue to overturn a new Bush administration policy they say sets a far-too-liberal deadline for power plants to cut toxic mercury emissions, officials said Tuesday.
New Jersey industries, however, will have to meet the state's stricter standard of reducing mercury 90 percent by 2007, or by 2012 if they agree to curb other pollutants as well.
The basis for New Jersey's lawsuit will be the fact that one-third of the mercury that has fouled every stream and river in the state comes from plants in other states.
