The world record for the "No Limits" category of competitive free diving is held by Belgian diver Patrick Musimu.
On 30 June 2005 he dived to a depth of 209 m (686 feet), in Egypt, in Red Sea; surpassing the previous record set by Loic Leferme by 38 meters and breaking the psychological barrier of -200 m.
The current women's record is held by Tanya Streeter, who dived to 160 m (525 feet) on 17 August 2002.

French freediver Loic Leferme achieved a new world freediving record with a 171m dive on a single breath of air.
Leferme took just 2 minutes to descend to depth on a sled, and then cracked open a cylinder which filled a balloon with air to take him back to the surface.
Leferme also wore a safety vest which could be inflated at depth in the event of the sled or balloon failing.

Leferme's record was verified by the International Association for the Development of Apnea, the recognised body for free-diving records worldwide.

On August 17th 2002, Tanya hoped to beat the women's No Limits free dive record, held by Canadian Mandy-Rae Cruickshank at 136m or 446ft.
