Ahmedabad: Demanding President's rule in Gujarat till the Assembly elections were held, the Lok Jan Shakti Party president Ram Vilash Paswan on July 25 said he would make representation to the Chief Election Commissioner in New Delhi to hold the polls in the state as per schedule.
The Election Commission (EC) should not yield to the pressure of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for holding early elections in the state as a large number of the riots-affected people were still at relief camps and were yet to resettle at their original places, Paswan said.
He said his party has undertaken a signature campaign in parts of the state requesting the EC to hold the Assembly polls after total normalcy prevailed in the violence-hit state to enable the riot affected people to exercise their franchise.
