Loktak Lake is the largest (additional info and facts about freshwater) freshwater lake in northeastern (A republic in the Asian subcontinent in southern Asia; second most populous country in the world; achieved independence from the United Kingdom in 1947) India.
It is an ancient lake and plays an important role in the economy of (State in northeastern India) Manipur.
The lake is also a source of livelihood for the rural (Someone whose occupation is catching fish) fisherman who live in the surrounding areas and on Phumdis - floating islands, which are actually heterogeneous mass of vegetation, soil, and organic matters at various stages of decomposition.
