Lollywood - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Lollywood refers to the Pakistani film industry, based in the city of Lahore.
Lollywood peaked in the mid 90s, a period during which movies such as Syed Noor's Jeeva and Samina Peerzada's Inteha (Urdu word for Extreme) were released and revived the Pakistani cinema but only temporarily.
Lollywood is certainly not on the down swing any more.

Dubbed "Lollywood" for its base in the city of Lahore, it doesn't compare with the thriving art, literature, and music scene of this cultural hot spot in the heart of Punjab Province.
In Lollywood's younger days, couples in the movies freely serenaded each other under moonlit skies, danced together in idyllic settings, and faced death and disownment to save their love.
Lollywood has lost its innocence and charm, and the mystique has deteriorated into kitschy repetition as producers strive for box office success.

SignOnSanDiego.com > News > Features -- 'Lollywood' cinema aims to emulate Indian rival
Pakistan's "Lollywood" film industry – the "L" for its base in Lahore –; is in serious decline, and only a helping hand from its booming Indian rival Bollywood or a large dose of government support can lift it from the gutter.
A typical Lollywood film involves half a dozen song and dance scenes, a cliched plot about lovers from different classes, a one-dimensional villain who always ends up in jail, and amateurish fights with exaggerated sound effects.
The most expensive in Lollywood history with a budget of 30 million rupees ($500,000), it was filmed in Pakistan, Switzerland, and Spain and crucially drew on Indian collaboration, with songs recorded in Bombay and dances arranged by leading Bollywood choreographer Saroj Khan.
