The tributaries that meet the Teesta in its path are the Zemu chu, Lonak chu, Lachung chu, Lachen chu, Talung chu and the Bakcha chu.
It is bounded by the Tent peak and the Zemu glacier in the north and Mount Lamaongden in the east, Mount Narsing and Mount Pandim in the south and the mighty Kanchenjunga in the west.
It is the glaciers which influence its land structure, soil quality, flow of water in its rivers, its vegetation, animal life and also many of the ecological changes that are taking place in this land of pristine charm.

It seemed a lot of money to have to pay, but the old man who ran our lodge in the village told us that the Maoists are demanding 60,000Nrs off him or they will take his grandson to join their army.
Impressive views of Kabru and Rathong up the Yalung Glacier, crossed a crazy landslide on the way to Yamphudin (very quaint Sherpa village), and a crazy bridge just after Phun Phun (another charming village).
It is a much tougher trek than Everest or Annapurna etc, but I found it to be a rewarding as it was challenging.

The lovely monastery in Ghunsa makes for an interesting visit before the first glimpse of a sea of unclimbed peaks including Jannu (25,289ft), know as "Mystery Peak" or "Terror Peak" is visible.
The trail goes on to reach the edge of the Kanchenjunga Glacier and, after crossing the lateral moraine you will come to the junction of Lhonak Glacier (15,680ft) and the valley beyond it.
The campsite at Lhonak can be reached by crossing this junction, an undisturbed landscape of unspeakable beauty.
