London has been one of the world's most important centres of commerce and politics for almost two millennia (although the capital of England was Winchester during most of the Dark Ages).

The first bridge across the Thames in the London area was built by the Romans on the present site around 60 AD and was made of wood.
In 1013, the bridge was burned down by King Aethelred in a bid to divide the invading forces of the Dane Svein Haraldsson.
John had the idea to build hoses on the bridge, and it was soon colonised by houses, shops and even a chapel built at the centre of the bridge (dedicated to the recently martyred and canonised Thomas Becket who, appropriately, had been born in the parish of St Mary Colechurch).

I used to live in London Ontario many years ago -- I was obviously destined to be a Londoner.
I too am a former and current Londoner (Ontario first, UK now), and I'm very tempted to guess the TD Waterhouse stadium on the UWO campus...
