Irish immigrants have formed an important part of the London population from at least the early seventeenth century, becoming particularly associated with seasonal labour, street selling, and the areas around St Giles in the Fields.
The greatest flow of emigration from Ireland to London occurred in the early to mid-nineteenth century, in response to the agricultural depressions following the Napoleonic Wars and the increasing demand for Irish labour associated with the Industrial Revolution.
Irish name types that include "Mc" can be used for searching with good results, but need to be used with care, as this search will also produce a sustantial proportion of unrelated trials.

 Royal Irish Rangers and London Irish Rifles
The Royal Irish Rangers is a Territorial Army regiment and was formed on July 1st, 1968 from three former constituent regiments, Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, Royal Irish Fusiliers and Royal Ulster Rifles.
In 1970 an Irish wolfhound, named Brian Boru I, was presented as mascot by Major Hayes, the Commanding Officer of The Royal Irish Rangers on his retirement, and this hound was shown on several occasions, as was the then Irish Guards' mascot, which was Fionn.
In 1992 The UDR (Ulster Defence Regiment) was amalgamated with the Royal Irish Rangers and renamed the Royal Irish Regiment.
